Parking in Manhattan on a Saturday

I know this is a rather specific question but I'm sure some New Yorker will know. How possible witll it be to park on the street for just an hour or so on Saturday, somewhere in the vicinity of the Conservatory Garden (105th)? And if I have a choice between morning (around 9-10) or afternoon (2-4pm) which would be better? Thanks

It is certainly possible - it just depends on how long you're willing to drive around looking for a spot - and how far you;re willing to walk. I would asume if you are willing to spend 20/30 minutes or so - and walk 6/8 blocks you will find a spot. On Saturday you might be better earlier. But why not just put it in a garage?

(It's easier in the summer, since a lot of people with cars take them away for the weekend - which has mostly stopped now.)

I don't think there are meters even in that area, and there is parking on the side streets as well. My best suggestion would be to get there early and be patient.

ENJOY!!

On street parking in NYC is very difficult. You will have to find someone moving out of a spot, and it will have to be big enough for you to get into -- cars are parked very tight in general. The fines for parking against the rules are quite high and there are a LOT of rules. If you score a meter, your best bet for on street short term parking, be sure you have pocket full of quarters -- the last time I needed 8 quarters for a hour. I ususally need 20-40 minutes driving a pattern of one way streets to find an onstreet spot on a Saturday.

Think favorably about springing for a spot in a lot.

I think the early morning (9 or earlier) would be a lot easier than the afternoon. Iconparking.com is a website that has decent priced parking all over the city. They have a lot on 107th between Fifth & Madison that would charge around $10 for an hour.

That's your back up.

You will probably have no problem finding a metered space for that short a time. So, bring a few quarters and you'll be fine. The morning will definitely be easier.

Thanks for answering. I guess I'll spin by that area and see what I can find. I have had luck on Saturdays with on street parking in other parts of NY, I was just wondering about that area. I only want to be there for a short time. Just wanted to take a short walk through the garden. I'll be parking for most of the day in a garage in the 80s so could just walk but my time is limited that day. That's why I asked.

Mclaurie - that parking website (i've always gotten to it at "weparknewyork.com" - but it's the same place) is wonderful. I never go to the city now without printing out a list of their garages in the area I want to go to. I just didn't want to bother with a garage for a half hour or so.
