Parking in Honolulu
We will be staying at PARC on the west coast when we go to Oahu next month. Where would it be convenient and safe to park our rental car when visiting Honolulu/Waikiki?
Thanks Arlene |
I've always had a car in Honolulu, and there is parking everywhere. I would just park legally and near where you want to be. Lots of people park there, so sometimes you need to look around a bit. Here's one location for information: http://www.waikikiimprovement.com/UPLOADS/Parking.pdf

If you mean overnight, and your hotel has it available (not all do) I would pay to park at your own hotel.

Suze they are staying at PARC so they won't be at a hotel in Waikiki.
Besides the link from Deb, many of the restaurants have free validated parking. Check the newspapers for the ads. Honolulu Advertiser Friday & Sunday MidWeek Honolulu Star Bulletin Sunday You can also park in the Honolulu Zoo lot for $.25 an hour, 4 hours max. Also $.25/hour meters on Kalakaua Ave on one side of the street toward Waikiki Aquarium. Free parking on the other side. About 1/3 the streets in Waikiki either have meters or free parking. The free spaces are really hard to find. Ala Wai Blvd has free parking. I usually park there or the Honolulu Zoo lot. For other options: Google: holoholo parking |
Thanks for all your suggestions. I had heard that parking could be a problem, but it sounds like there are many good options.

Just curious...What or where is PARC?
|
Pililaau Army Recreation Center (PARC) (Formally Waianae Army Recreation Center) at Pokai Bay
http://www.mwrarmyhawaii.com/lodging/waianaelg.asp It is lodging in cottages on the Leeward coast & is for military or retired military. |
Oops, sorry, totally missed the location (and point) of this question. Thanks.
The parking lot at the Zoo is the one I hear most often mentioned as a good deal. |
Thanks for all your help...leaving Friday! Can't wait!

We just got back today from Oahu. I am assuming you are military, or retired, from the PARC mention. Directly across from the Army Museum is a parking lot for military to use, as well as a parking garage across from the Hale Koa. The lot across from the museum is more for day use (that is what the Hale Koa told us anyway). Anyway, both the lot and the garage are great locations for the beach as well as the shopping/restaurant areas.
