Parking a Ford Transit Passenger Van NYC
 

We had to rent a Ford Transit Van to get 6 people and luggage to NYC before a flight to Thailand. It's 72 inches tall, and I'm worried a little about finding a parking garage. We're staying at 54th and Broadway. I've heard anything from $15 more, if it will fit, to double the cost. Any suggestions? I'm not adverse to dropping everyone and luggage off and parking either close enough to walk(1/2 mile) or subway back. We arrive on Saturday, and drop our Thai friends at JKK on Monday morning.

You might do a search for the very few open parking lots versus garages -sine that way there is no problem with the low ceilings garages usually have.

What about One Way Rentals? You rent a van/vehicle at your origin, drive it and drop it off at the airport. On your return, take the terminal train to the rental cars, rent a van, drive and drop off at your point of origin.

A bit crazy to even consider paying for parking a car for said amounts of days when one way rentals are so common and easy.... Call Hertz, Budget, Avis and ask about One Way Rentals.

One way rentals can be prohibitively expensive also vs. 3 days parking, even in NYC.

Gretchen-- not at all. Prices for one way rentals have come down dramatically in the last 3-4 years. I just rented a one way rental to drive from my hometwon to JFK, about 200 miles away. How much I paid? $45. If it had been a weekend then $65. A van limo service same distance charges $75/pp. Not a math genius but SIGNIFICANTLY CHEAPER than 3 days parking in NYC.

Can't argue with the economics!!
