parking
My husband and I are going to New York tomorrow and we will be staying at the Waldorf. They want $45 for parking; any other suggestions for parking in that area?

That is normal for parking in that neighborhood. I've seen parking as much as $75 per day in Midtown.

Cheaper parking exists in NYC, but not in the area of your hotel. If you plan to just park your car for the whole trip
and pick it up when yo leave, there are some cheaper lots all the way on the west side (about1- 1 1/2 mile away) and then you can take a cab to/from your hotel.
If it's just for one night and/or you need quick access to the car, that probably won't work.
Also, check if the $45 allows you in/out privileges (if that's what you need) --it's rare in NY, but if it is, it would actually be a huge deal at that rate!

XXX states "I've seen parking as much as $75 per day in Midtown." Where did you see this $75 rate for 24 hours? I have never seen anything approaching that number.

Do a search in switchboard in parking garages near the Waldorf. You can probably take it to a private lot, not affiliated with any hotel, for less. I know in my neighborhood (lower manhattan) you can park for about $25/day in a private lot. As far as in/out privileges, unless you plan on leaving the city there is no reason to take your car anywhere within Manhattan. It's more trouble than it's worth.

Hi Lisa,

$35 -$45 is pretty normal for parking. I often pay that much when I drive into the city, it's much easier than driving around and taking a chance at finding a cheaper place. I've also discovered that alot of places don't give you a price until you are of the street and in the lot. Good luck.
