Park City Hotel choices
I tried to post this on Utah...not sure if I did!
Here are my choices for our now Park City (was going to be SLC) vacation for 3 days with two young children. We want a nice place in July, outdoor pool, lots of outdoor ops outside our door, all close to Park City restaurants and shops! St Regis Stein Eriksen Montage Deer Valley Waldorf Astoria Please help, given our consideration! Thank you! Sarah |
My favorite is Stein's Lodge - and while it's up in Deer Valley (mid-mountain) - it has nice restaurants and you can take the back way to get down to Park City. :)
We used to love to pop in their for lunch (as well as over at the Silver Lodge was it?) - and at the bar - you could get a good bowl of soup - or soup/sandwich, whatever - and be watching what is going on outside- or they even used to have a Hamburger BBQ area set up on the deck. http://www.steinlodge.com/ |
Thank you, Tomsd! Looks like a front runner. What do you mean by the back way down to PC?
I have been to Park City, twice briefly, but about 20 years ago. :) And i did decide against Waldorf Astoria since it is at Canyons and I would rather not stay there. More thoughts welcome! |
Go on trip advisor for reviews. Many lovely properties in Park City and Deer Valley.

Sarah,
None of these luxury brand hotels are near Historic Main St. Not within walking distance either. I assume with small kids you are renting a car? You can take the free shuttles around and to town if you like. The Montage is high up in Deer Valley. St, Regis is at lower Deer Valley. Stein's is in upper DV,but much better located than Montage. Stein's is special. All of these luxury properties have pools and their own restaurants, but if you want to be more conveniently located, lok at the Marriott Mountainside. Nice condo hotel, pool, right at the base area of PCMR and all their activites. Walking distance toMain Street and several rest there at the base. |
Love Stein's and there is a road from Stein's on down (the back way) to Park City - so you don't have to go/wind all the way down the mountain to the base of Deer Valley and then over to Park City. I haven't been there for a few years but assume it's still open.
Also - do get over to Main St. in Park City. Just classic. Here is some more info: The back/old road went by the old mine - and this may help: http://www.steinlodge.com/lodge/press/facts "If Ontario Canyon Road is closed due to road conditions, proceed back to the roundabout and take the exit to Deer Valley Resort. Proceed on Deer Valley Drive until the road becomes a one-way. Take a right onto Royal Street and follow until you reach Stein’s Way." BTW - I hope Stein is still with us as not only is he the greatest guy - but what a beautiful skier. We also met another Norwegian legend years ago - over at Alta - and that was Alf Engen - who has gone on to the great ski area in the sky. |
Thank you very much, Tomsd and Dayle! I think I prefer to be on a mountain so my kids can run around, hike, etc than be closer to the town of PC...it will be fun to stay at the base, especially if there are fun things to do.
Which hotel would you stay at if you were me, still Stein's? Any thoughts on the Park City hotel? I am so torn! I really want a very nice hotel, nice pool, on a Mt so my kids can run and play easily... Thanks again! Sarah |
Your kids can rip all over the mid-mountain area surrounding Steins, again - which is my choice. Nice pool area too.

rungirl,
Based on what you say you want, I would also recommend Stein's. There are several restaurants and more casual places within walking distance and a large flat area just outside the lodge where several of the lifts converge. Plenty of hiking and mountain biking is very big at DV. Free concerts on Wed nights are at lower DV - Silver Park base area. Other concerts throughout the week often include big names / Utah Symphony. The always perform the 1812 Overture complete with REAL cannons. Usually in August. Park City Arts Festival is first w/e in August too. Very fun for the family. Even more fun for kids is Park Silly Market on Sundays (lower Main St.). Free, music, food, local arts, face painting, mimes, etc., etc. Very popular! Have fun! |
The funny thing is, Stein's is the least expensive of the three! But I really like the look of the pool area at the St Regis....Montage just looks all around nice, buti will take your advice and book Stein's and keep obsessing about the pool areas which is where my kids will want to spend all of their time....and at Stein's I thought it looked small comparatively? Please correct me if I am wrong!
Thank you! Sarah |
Hey - how big a pool does a kid really need? And Stein's is such old world classic - while the St. Regis is more of a modern sky-scraper. :)
Did I ever tell you about the time I talked with "Batman" in the Stein garage? Yes, Michael Keaton was enjoying a fine time skiing there - and his girl friend had the deepest blue eyes I have ever seen - with of course, some other lovely features. :) |
Ok, you got me at Batman...it is booked, staying at the Stein for 3 nts in July and we hope it is as amazing as you both have made it sound...will post a report when we return...thank you very much!
