I have done some research and we are looking forward to Park City for the first time. I am a little concerned about no snow and it being a transitional time. any suggestions of off the beaten path opportunities in early December?
Day 1
SLC airport shuttle to PC
9:00 dinner at Zoom
Check in to Treasure Mountain Inn
PM Main street
Day 2
Morning Ray's
Alf Engen Museum and environs
4:00 PM -the Comet (!)
(Is it possible to get from the comet back to The Egyptian using public transportation for a PM show?)
Day 3
Alpine coaster
Goldner Hirsh Inn dinner
St. Regis Bar--- Thanks!

Can't say if you can make a pm show. What time exactly?

Are you planning to have dinner then stroll main st? Shops and galleries close about 7-8 pm.

OMG - there is an Alf Engen Museum? We had the pleasure of staying at his lodge at Alta - and meeting him way back in the 70's, and even taking a run or two with him.

At night - Alf would make popcorn and narrate the old films of his racing days. They actually used to get up from a fall and brush the snow off their pants before continuing on down the hill.

And to Alf - you had to be a 4 "vay" skier to really count. He guided Canada's PM - then Pierre Trudeau - and liked the fact that Pierre could do downhill, slalom, jump and also - X country.
Alf had also helped lay out Sun Valley - and Portillo Chile.

He was one of a kind - and now - only Stein Erickson (and his beautiful form http://tinyurl.com/bfoyaam ) - is left from that great bunch of Norwegians who helped found skiing in this country. Used to ask Stein about Alf when we were skiing at Deer Valley.

If you can get to Stein's lodge - the cocktail bar has a great view.

..sadly we we are not skiers....love shmaltz dearly though!!! We hope to bring our snowshoes, but for the past several years there never seems to be enough enough wherever we go (in various mountain areas). We arrive Dec 7 and depart on the 11th. comet reservation is at 4:00 PM and show is at 7. since the comet is less than a minute we thought it could work.
Looking forward to the interactive museum and the Stein's lodge is definitely on our longer list!

Park City is great - and I don't ski either. We loved walking on Main Street even after dinner when the only thing open was a charming little bookstore (Dolly's - Dayle, is it still there?) . There were snow flurries that night, and along with the Christmas lights, made it so festive.

applejacks,

I checked around for you because I didn't think the free PC shuttles go to the Utah Olympic Park and unfortunately, I was right. We do have several taxi and private car companies in town and you could make arrangements with one of them for your visit to the Olympic Park.

I assume you are going to do the bobsled ride at the track? It's a minute you will NEVER forget! Just be sure to pay close attention to the instructions, it's important. If you don't, you will not be able to hold your head up against the G forces and all you will see is your knees. You are aware that you should not ride if you have neck or back problems?

Your Day #3 looks quite open. There is much to do here, so consider - day spa, hot air ballooning, snow mobiling, guided nature/wildlife walk at the Swaner Nature Preserve.

sf - yes Dolly's is still there. It's an institution, complete with resident kitty. Great book selections for a tiny store.

Applejacks, I'm confused about your Day 4. You should leave for the airport no later than 6pm. The sleighride is where and at what time? Before dinner?

Greetings, Thanks for the information you provided. This is very helpful so we can reserve transportation back from Olympic Park. BTW That last day label was a typo, the last day departure is a separate partial day. The sleigh ride is a dinner package. I am hoping there is enough snow for it to be a go. I know sometimes some companies use wheels instead of the sled if there is not snow. It is not the same, but it will still be great if they are operating the sleigh ride with adjustments. You are correct about the Comet. I will definitely pass that info on to hubby! Many thanks!
