Park Central Hotel in New York ok?
Taking a very last minute trip to N.Y. for four nights, early January, with my daughter. Found this hotel and it looks nice enough, great price. Especially like its location for walking everywhere. Anyone have experience there, or know of it?
The Park Central Hotel is located at 870 Seventh Avenue at 56th Street. Thanks! |
Good news! I just returned from NYC and stayed at the Park Central Hotel on 7th. Great location for all major sites. Subway station is in same block. You are close to Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Sq. is only blocks away. I've stayed there 4 times over last few years. Always my 1st choice.

We stayed at the Park Central during a trip 6 mo. ago and found it to be just fine. You might find mixed reviews about it but our experience was quite good. Rooms were adequately sized and clean and the location is excellent.
Not my first choice if budget is of no concern but we would most certainly stay there again. |
We have also stayed there within the last year. It is a great location, good sized rooms and well priced. There is a Le Pain Quotdien just up 7th which is great, and the coffee shop across 7th by the Wellington is also good. Love the location.

Thank you so much for your replies! I was getting skittish about this hotel, because I saw an even better price via Expedia than the one I got directly via the hotel. But if it's good enough, the location sounds great, and I'll have extra money to splurge on dining, a show, etc. Thanks! Anyone else is welcome to comment.

I forgot to ask-- is renovation still going on at the hotel? Are the rooms done yet? Does construction get in the way?
|
Maureen, January is a great time for getting bargains on hotels in NYC. While, as others say the Park Central is ok, there may be better options for the same or less money. The Salisbury, right near the Park Central and an all suite hotel is $149/159. I've seen prices for the Best Western Hospitality (on the east side) for as low as $119 for a 1 bedroom suite with kitchen.

Thanks again. I've even seen the Algonquin for $160-- maybe I'll check into that classic. Unless it's become a dump?
|
The Algonquin is certainly not a dump. Rooms aren't large or fancy but the place has great atmosphere and service is very good. At that price, that's a nice place. I'd just check about bed configuration. Not sure how many 2 bedded rooms they have or whether they have kings if you care.
|
No, the Algonquin has not become a dump.
|
Yes, there is still construction along 7th Ave. at the outside of front entrance. But it was not a hindrance. I didn't see any construction on the interior.
|
Thanks, everyone. With time running out, I booked the Park Central. The Algonquin was about $100 more per night.
I'd called the Park Central directly to reserve a superior room for a total of $633. But via Expedia, I found the same room INCLUDING breakfast for two for $641. So I've booked the four nights through Expedia. Our N.Y. friends say we'll be happy with the neighborhood, and we look forward to our visit to the Big Apple! |
