My wife and I are going to spend 3 nights in Vegas over New Years Eve. I have done a lot of reasearch and think the following hotels look nice and fit within our budget. Please help us decide between them:

Mandalay Bay (too far south?)
Paris (great rate, but gets so-so reviews)
Mirage (most expensive - worth it?)
Treasure Island

I've got a reservation at Paris but am considering the others as well. We don't gamble much, so the casinos will not be a deciding factor for us. We do like to go bar hopping and see shows. Were are also interested in whether pools are open/happening during the day at that time of year. Any other advice would be appreciated. Has anyone been to Vegas on New Years Eve?

I would go with Paris or Mirage. Paris is newer and has a great buffet. Mirage has a great pool. So does Mandalay Bay, but it IS very far south.
I think Treasure Island is just a tad too far to the north. Even though it's next door to Mirage, the Mirage is a BIG property, bringing TI a ways down to the north. So I would go with either Paris or Mirage.

Pools shouldn't be a consideration since you will not be using them at that time of the year. Temps will most likely be in the 50s in the day and 30s at night.

I was in LV last New Year's Eve and stayed at Caesar's Palace. It was fun but became very crowded as New Year's Eve approached. Some of the gourmet restaurants were closed for private parties (at least they were at Caesar's). The strip is closed to traffic from about 8:00pm on. It fills up with tons of people (many of whom are pretty drunk).

If I was picking between the hotels you listed, I would choose Mandalay Bay - it has some good restaurants (3950 is one of my favorites in all of Vegas) and bars - you could go bar hopping all in one hotel (Red Square, Rum Jungle, House of Blues). If, however, you want to visit a lot of other properties, you probably would be better off staying mid-strip (Mirage/Paris/Treasure Island)area. I like Mirage the best but Paris is also nice. If you were able to get a significantly better rate at Paris, I would go there as opposed to Mirage.

If you can get Paris at a good rate for New Year's Eve, I would go with it. We have stayed there a couple of times (as well as Mandalay Bay). Mandalay Bay is a great property, but I assume more money than Paris. The location of Paris is better than MB and restaurants are very good. I don't think pools will factor into your decision, because it will probably be too cool for swimming.

If the $$ were equal, I would choose Mandalay Bay, but if you can save some money, Paris is still a great choice.

I would never pay more to stay at Mirage over MB.

Best bang for your buck might be Paris. If it was summer, I'd say MB but the pool complex will be closed. If you're into clubby type bars, then MB might be best as you have RumJungle and can easily get to Ra at Luxor. Mama Mia is at MB, I thought it was great.

i'd choose the paris and get a room facing the bellagio so you can watch the water show from your room.

It's a toss up between Paris and Mirage. Mandalay Bay I agree is too far at the south end of the Strip. Treasure Island tends to have more kids than Paris or Mirage.

Dave- I'd go with either Mirage or Paris. I've stayed in Mandalay Bay, and didn't care for the location or the rooms. I've stayed in Mirage and loved it and was upgraded to a suite and it was "awesome". I've never stayed at Paris, but heard the rooms are so so and the buffet wasn't too great, but if you get a room looking over to Bellagio, you can see a great water show. I've also stayed at Bellagio, Venetian, and the Hilton and we really liked Mirage the best.

Pools will be closed and it'll be far too cool anyway to be running around in less than full covering.

Mandalay is the nicest hotel of those on your list but location is a big negative.
Unless you are upgraded at Mirage the standard rooms are not worth more $$ than the others on your list.
Paris has the best location but compared with the better hotels (Bellagio, Venetian, Four Seasons) its rooms are average...like a typical Marriott. But for the right price Paris is a good value.

Yes, we have heard by many the Aladdin is wonderful and we have booked there for xmas holidays...can't wait. Haven't heard good things about Luxor. Stayed at Mirage....didn't like it....poor service.
