Parasailing in Hawaii: Worthwhile?
I'm traveling to Hawaii (the Big Island and Maui) this summer with a party of 6. One of the things on our to-do list while there is parasailing. However, we purchased both Hawaiian "ultimate guidebooks", "The Big Island Revealed" and "Maui Revealed", and read that the parasailing on both islands is not anything worthwhile. Has anyone ever heard anything about the parasailing on either of these islands? Has anyone ever parasailed on either of these islands? If so, was it worth it? Also, was either the Big Island or Maui more preferable when it came to parasailing (company, views, prices, etc.)? Any feedback would be highly appreciated.

We did this and thought it was great fun and worth the price which I can't remember.

I have never been parasailing so can't say if it is worth it.
If price makes a difference there is a "One Deluxe Parasail Ticket" with purchase of a second "Deluxe Parasail Ticket" in Entertainment Book. http://www.ufoparasailing.com/ www.entertainment.com |
My BF and my son did this on Maui - in Lahaina, to be exact, some years ago and they both loved it and thought it was well worht the $. Watching from shore, my daughter and I (wimps!) got some cool photos of them having a great time of it.

I have parasailed several times on the Big Island with Kona's UFO Parasailing and I love it - - like floating, peaceful and quiet with a great view. Once I took my grandson (13) and we parasailed tandem. He really loved it also. UFO gave us a choice of three heights (like 600 feet, 800 feet or 1200 feet - I can't remember for sure). I have always chosen the highest one because my theory is you are already "way up there", may as well go all the way.

We've parasailed a few times from Kaanapali on Maui. The last time I went tandem with my young son. It is a unique experience. UFO Parasail has been around the longest and have the best set up.

Thanks everyone for all of the info. It sounds to me like parasailing in Hawaii would be worth it, therefore it will definitely remain on our to-do list while there. However, would anyone say that the Big Island or Maui is more preferable for parasailing? Or would you say that you couldn't go wrong with parasailing on either island?

I haven't sailed on both islands but we did do Maui and it was great. We used UFO as well with a buy one get one deal through entertainment mentioned above.

I don't think it really matters which island you are doing it. The only major difference I can think of would be the views of the coastline that you would get while up in the air. I personally think the West Maui Mountains are much prettier. As far as the wind and ocean conditions, it would probably affect both islands equally.

Just out of curiosity, while parasailing on the Big Island do you get to see the volcano's from a bird's eye view? (I'm not sure if "bird's eye view" is the correct terminology, but I'm just curious as to if you see the volcano's while parasailing) I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
