Papaya Hot Dogs

Which is the famous hot dog place, Gray's Papaya or Papaya King? I think it's Papaya King, but I keep seeing all kinds of good reviews for Gray's Papaya. The husband insists on a great New York dog, and I keep hearing, "Go to the Papaya place!" But which one?
Thanks!

My kids love Papaya King - but they also love Crif Dogs in on 113 St marks Place (bet Ave A and 1st) don't know if you'll ever be there, but if your husband wants to do a comparison - at Crifs they ahve more toppings than you can imagine - it's a different animal than Papaya King, butyou can look it up on menupages.com to see if you are interested if you end up near there. it's open until something like 3am I think, although I can't imagine eating a hot dog at that hour!

Papaya King on the uppereast side of Manhattan is the original and, I believe, started the whole "Papaya" fad thing. Gray's followed suit. You'll get some who say Papaya King is better and some who'll vouch by Gray's. I find them very similar. Either way, they're the only place left in the City where you'll see homeless people on line with people in Armani suits to grab lunch for a buck.

Corner of 86th and Third Avenue. Northwest corner.

Lines out the door and around the corner.

I believe it is Papaya King---very good, but order it without the onions

although all of my friends tell me that the hotdogs from the street vendors are better :)

The one in the village, and the one on west 72nd are so similiar you can't tell any difference - and they are the best hot dogs in NY. No comparison to the guys on the street - those are steamed, the Papaya ones are grilled - much better.

Well, those dogs are fine but if your husband wants a much better dog, take him to Katz's deli on Houston Street. Far superior to the papaya dogs.

Another great lunch for a dollar can be had in Chinatown at one of the dumpling places. There are a couple on Eldrige Street and one on the tiny lane, Mosco Street, off Mott Street...you get 5 fried
dumplings for a dollar.

Did you guys know Papaya King/Gray's Papaya and even Katz use the same supplied, some Marathon Enterprises, NJ, for their Dogs?

Infact a few years back Nathan's(Coney Island) used the same suppliers. Papaya King also adds a secret spice to their dogs from Marathon. So, I guess its the relish and mustard that makes the difference!
