Pantos in L.A. for Xmas

Does anyone know where I can find a good old fashioned British pantos in L.A. this Christmas?

What are pantos?

Nicky Dec 15th, 2002 03:58 PM

Usually a Christmas play, like Fractured Fairy Tales, where the main male lead is played by a woman and the main female lead is played by a very made-up male.

There's a popular British pub in Santa Monica (can't think of the name right now). It attracts a large following of British ex-pats who might be able to help you out.

I believe that pub would be the King George's.

Lots of luck, Nicky. I'm a big fan of Pantos in England, but have never heard of one being done in the US, least of all in LA.

Nicky,
There's a pantos production every year in Santa Barbara. (www.graceandcompetra.com)They can probably tell you where to catch one in L.A. As L.A. is the last outpost of the Empire ( I'm told it has the largest number of Brit ex-pats anywhere) there must be a production or two. The King George is a good place to inquire, also.

Nicky,
The Mayflower Club is nearby N. Hollywood usually produces a Panto in January. 11110 Vicotry Blvd. ,(tel: 818-769-6370)

M.

You have all given me some very good leads! I will check with the Mayflower when they open tomorrow, and likewise, the King George (and King's Head), to see what they know. Pat, we DID see one in the Valley a few years ago, which was very good, but I had no recollection of the name of the place. As Michelle points out, we (especially Santa Monica) has a huge number of ex-pats. I will let you know.

Well you learn something new every day. This is what I learned today. I'd have never guessed you could really see an English style panto in the states -- have never heard of one here.

I checked out the information given here. Everyone was so helpful. The Mayflower Club is indeed having an annual pantos in January -- Jack and the Beanstalk. Thanks for all who responded. Great help!

Just an FYI- Panto (singular) is short for Pantomime.
