Panhandle Florida over labor weekend...crazy?

Is the weather really that bad? I've been to South Florida (Miami and the keys)in early June and I thought the weather wasn't bad at all...Is September worse than June?

Thanks in advance for your help

Bad? Why are you expecting bad weather?

SHL Jul 19th, 2006 04:00 PM

Sorry, I wasn't clear, I meant tempature and humindity wise.

Thansk again!

If you were okay with Miami and the Keys in June, you will be more than fine with the Panhandle over Labor Day weekend.

If you didn't think Miami was bad in June, then I doubt you'll think the Panhandle is at Labor Day. We used to vacation in Destin July/August and thought nothing of it--of course we lived in Dallas at the time so hot was relative. It will be crowded though, to the point where it constitute "bad" in many people's books!

It's really not that bad. I find it less humid than South Florida. It seems like there are better breezes.

SHL,

As the others said, if you were okay in south FL in June, here will be no problem for you heat and humidity wise in September. Just keep an eye on the tropics.

Historicaly, if we're going to get a hurricane, September and October are our most active months. (This year, however, there won't be any. All of us here in P'cola have purchased huge fans which we keep pointed at the Gulf ready to blow any 'canes back to sea. :-) )

Seriously, Labor Day, at least here on Pensacola Beach, isn't the busy weekend it used to be. With schools starting back up in mid-August now days, the tourists begin to taper off after Blue Angels weekend in mid-July. Even pre-Ivan we noticed a major drop in the number of cars out here on the Island compared to years ago when kids didn't go back to school so early.

I can't say if this is true in other Panhandle beachs. Maybe someone more familiar with Destin, Seaside, etc, will chime in for those areas.

Fran

Thank you so much for all of your response.

One more quesiton...we also thought about sarasota/naple area...is weather different there or more or less the same? I think we prefer panhandle if everything else being equal...

Thanks again!!!

LOL Fran! I will keep my fan on! So far so good!

SHL Labor Day is great in the panhandle. Fall room rates kick in the middle of August in the Destin/Panama City area as opposed to after Labor Day like so many places. I don't think the weather will be any different from south FL that time of year. I will have to agree with mah1980, it never seems quite as humid here as in south FL. That may be because it gets cooler at night here than in south FL.

Labor Day weather is usually great! Still hot of course....Sept and Oct are both wonderful months in the panhandle...especially October! Lovely! Less crowds, fantastic weather as long as there are no storms. Rates go down after Labor Day and so do the crowds!
Actually after mid Aug, the crowds get a lot less....so we're almost there.

Hello all,

I just wanted to tell everyone that we've had a wonderful time in seaside, FL. Weather was warm (perfect beach weather) during daytime, but not humid. During night time, temp dropped to 70s, perfect for all the outdoor concerts and beach walks...Thanks again for all of your input, we truly had a wonderful time.
