Panama City Beach or sompelace not far from Atlanta Advice Needed for 1 adult two teens

Hi all. My daughter has a fencing tournament in Atlanta that is spread out over 9 days in July. I want to spend 4 days at a beach with my 12 and 16 yr old daughters. I don't mind driving 5-6 hours. I've been to Florida many many times, but never Panama City Beach. They seem to like the idea of the Gulf vs the Atlantic. The Bay Point Marriott looks very nice, does it have a nice private beach? Is it too far away from activities? Anyone have any suggestions for places to stay, etc? Thanks for any ideas and help!

While Bay Point is a beautiful, self-contained resort, it is located on St. Andrew's Bay and not the Gulf, and it's far from the action (the two "strips" -- Thomas Drive and Front Beach Road).

That being said, Bay Point is a little city within itself, and it offers plenty of activities (and bay beaches).

If you'd prefer access to the area's main drags (restaurants, shopping, etc.), then I suggest Thomas Drive on the Gulf.

Good luck & Enjoy!

Bay Point is nice, but like Gekko said if you want beach, that is really not the place to stay. I recommend the far west end of Panama City Beach. A lot of revitalization has been done and it is quite nice-no tacky tee shirt shops and Mom and Pop motels.

Yes, I agree, they do like to walk right out to the beach. They loved St Pete a couple years ago. I'm not sure where you're talking about Sue, but is the Best Western Casa Loma or the Flamingo Hotel and Tower in that area? Any comment on either property?
