palm springs/desert area
Planning to spend 4-5 days in Palm Springs/Desert/Rancho Mirage in early April. Our kids and their family are staying at Las Palmas Rancho Mirage which is a little too pricey for us. We also don't need all the resort attractions, other than a pool. Does anyone have some suggestions of where we could stay where it wouldn't be too far away (10-5 min. drive), clean, pool. We'll probably meet up with the kids during the days and dinner, but we don't want to spend $300+/day.

I plugged in 4/7-12th on expedia.com and got the Moronga Casino 4* hotel resort for $169 a night..that is a good deal.
You are going at high season and spring break.
Try expedia..
There is a Country Inn and suites that is next door to RLP that might work as well..think that is the name.
Las Casuelas Nuevas and Kobe Japanese are good for the kids in Rancho Mirage/Palm Desert/LQ area..good for the adults too..
Sherman's deli is outstanding.
Take the kids for breakfast to Norma's at the Parker!
We enjoy Rancho las Palmas..been staying there for years but KSL just purchased them a couple years back and they did a great job on the renovation.

You don't have to go a half hour away to Moronga Casino to get a really good price, the Fairfield Inn by Marriott is about a mile away from RLP on Hwy. 111. They have a nice pool and offer free breakfast.

Rates start at $119.

I agree with MBNancy. There are plenty of good properties on 111, close to RLP, that you can get for just over $100. Our friends stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn last year for under $100 during the first week of April (our spring break). The Holiday Inn Express and Embassy Suites also offer decent value.

The following is from my trip report, a description of where we stayed in PS October 2008:
Our conference hotel was the Spa Resort Casino. I was concerned after reading very mixed reviews on TA. I needn't have been. The hotel was excellent in every way. Our room was quite large with a nice mountain view, beds were comfortable and linens of good quality . Everything was white glove clean and the toiletries were first class. The room was done in earth tones. Hotel staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The hotel picked us up at the airport and returned us when it was time to leave at no charge. The shuttle service was prompt. We did not use the spa, so have no opinion other than it looked nice. There are 3 pools, all heated. The largest is at about 80F and the 2 smaller soaking pools were about 110F. Everything was clean and the fitness center was the largest I have ever seen at a hotel. Equipment was plentiful, state of the art, and there are trainers to help. The public areas are very nice. The hotel and casino are in buildings a half block apart. The hotel was a fantastic value at $110/night including all taxes etc.
The hotel has a convenient downtown PS location.

I pass by the Morongo Casino Resort when I drive up to Yucca Valley to check on my crazy 82 year old uncle!
It may be a nice hotel but the location is in the middle of nowhere! It's kinda off the freeway and there isn't anything for miles and miles. The closest place to do anything fun (outside the casino) would be Palm Springs or Los Angeles.

Hampton Inn has a 2 room suite for $163 a night on expedia which is a great for your family.
I do want to apologize on the Morongo Casino..I am confusing the Morongo with the Aqua Caliente.
We usually stay at Rancho las Palmas and have gone to the casino and it took about 10 minutes so it got me thinking when you all were stating that it took 30 minutes.
Sorry for any confusion and yes, the Fairfield and Hilton Garden are great reasonable hotels too!
