PALM SPRINGS to TUCSON via PHOENIX

Hubby, Wife, Daughter 15 yo, Daughter 11 yo on way home from Los Angeles to Dallas...taking four days for trip home. We've built in time for meandering and learning a bit about the cities/area/culture along the way.

PHOENIX - what could we do in Phoenix in a couple of hours that would give us the "feel" of Phoenix? What's on the top MUST SEE list for Phoenix?

TUCSON - we are staying at the Hilton Tucson Conquistador. Would you spend your time there since it's supposed to be a great resort? Or, wouldyou spend a couple of hours in Tucson? What's on the top MUST SEE list for Tucson?

Thanks in advance!

Maybe the Desert Botanical Garden, or the Heard Museum. Probably the Desert Botanical Garden, if it's not too warm to walk around. When are you doing this drive? It was 102 F yesterday here in Phoenix.

Honestly, on just a drive thru Phoenix on the way to Tucson, the "feel" of Phoenix you'll most likely get is of very heavy freeway traffic moving either too fast or not at all.

We'll be there mid-June. I'm from Dallas. I know hot too! Although Phoenix HOT and Dallas HOT are two different HOTS!!! :-)

What time of day will you be passing thru Phoenix? Week-day or weekend?

Seriously, traffic week-day afternoons will be pretty bad on your route, it takes about 45 minutes to drive thru town via I-10 even if traffic is light (and it will be bad anytime near rush hour), so I would personally hunker down and just drive straight through to my overnight in Tucson.

Don't know if you're into architecture, but you could check out Taliesin West. This was a winter home and design school started by renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Today it is a school of architecture.

It's actually in Scottsdale---not Phoenix---but in the vicinity and generally Scottsdale is considered part of the same metropolitan area.

And yes...it will be hot.
