Palm Springs Steakhouse?
 

My fiance and I are taking a trip to Palm Springs this weekend and he loooooooves steak. Does anyone have any good recommendations for a local steakhouse? I'd prefer to stay away from a chain like Fleming's simply because we go there all the time at home.

LG's Prime Steakhouse and the Falls are two possibilities in downtown PS. LG's does have multiple locations, but all in southern CA. Old-school prime rib, Caesar salad prepared at tableside, stylish room. The Falls is newer, offers similar fare. Both are good, LG's being just a bit better.

Anyone know if the Chophouse is any good?

I'm not a steak person but have heard that the Chop House is good. It's owned by the Kaiser grill group.

Ruth's Chris Steak House is one of our favorites. We have eaten at the one in Palm Desert with some friends and really enjoyed it. Thay also have a great wine selection. We have tried several of them including Ruth's Chris Plantation House in Richmond, VA. All are superb! Check out their web site to make reservations!

bear: The OP seemingly wants to <i>avoid</i> the widespread chains, so that knocks Ruth's Chris out of the running. You can have their swimming-in-butter slabs of meat just about anywhere in the US. (I prefer LG's or the Falls to Ruth's Chris, in any case. JMHO....)

Any suggestions for Mexican? (we're there 2 nights.) Good margs are a must.

Definitely LG's. I've been to Ruth's &amp; Chop House. LG's wins. MMMMM! I got the caesar recipe off the website but have yet to try it.

We also ate at a good Mexican place on the main street, but I don't know the name. We walked around the outdoor market (Thursday nights, I believe...?) and stopped in the one that smelled the best.

Haven't been to the desert in awhile, but LG's is now on my list! Thanks!

You can do a search by restaurant type and location in www.thedesertsun.com, dining section. I'm guessing she was at Las Casuelas. The authentic Mexican food is in Cathedral City and Indio, La Casita has a branch in Palm Springs.
If you're looking for a nice place for cocktails and appetizers, Spencer's is great.

Do you want to try places just in Palm Springs, or would you travel 25 min. to La Quinta? El Adobe, the Mexican restaurant at the La Quinta Resort has very good patio dining overlooking their fabulous grounds. There is live music, killer Margarita's and they make the Guacamole tableside. We were just there last week, and they had the misters on to cool off the area!

The best Mexican joint on Palm Canyon is Edgardo's Veracruz. Las Casuelas is a tourist trap with barely-adequate food, although the margaritas are acceptable (that dump is definitely for the tourists). Blue Coyote is inauthentic, but some of the food is quite good. Del R&iacute;o's isn't bad either. But if you want really good, pretty authentic Cal-Mex cuisine, Edgardo's, by far.

I have lived in Palm Desert and Palm Springs. The best mexican restaurant anywhere is Rincon del Norte in Indio. Their Nuevo Mexicano eggs are to die for.

I have to disagree about Edgardo's Veracruz. Four of us ate there a month ago and we all hated it. Tacky cafeteria setting and horrid food.

RBCal: Since it's been a while since I've eaten there, I'll take you word for it-- too bad, cuz the last time I went it was quite good (and authentic-- my tablemates were all friends from Mexico).

Bummer. I won't go to Las Casuelas ever again-- the last time was a complete fiasco, and the food itself never rises much above the late, not-lamented Chi-Chi's level. I guess I'll have to forego Mexican food in PS and simply indulge more of the good stuff here at home...!

Just wanted to post another vote for LG's steakhouse. Awesome meat, great seating outside.

Also, we ate at Kaiser Grill on another trip to Palm Desert and I was not impressed. Poor service, though the food was decent.

Thumbs down on Del Rio's, too.

My husband and I just finished a 7 day trip to Palm Springs/Palm Desert. I highly recommend Morton's Steakhouse. We pretty much found it by accident. It was the aroma coming from it that got us to turn the car around and go there for dinner. More in-depth detail on my experience there:

It is similar to a Ruth's Chris steakhouse. Everything is ala carte, ambience is upscale and incredible, service and food are top quality. I plan on eating there next time we visit.

The best Mexican is Mirasol in PS

My husband finds Mexican food too &quot;unhealthy&quot; but he really likes Mirasol because he can get FRESH SHRIMP dishes. I like their cheese enchiladas and I get whole beans instead of refried. Their salsa is FRESH. Made everyday. I hear the margaritas are good. If you plan on eating after 6pm, make a reservation. It gets crowded even in the brutal hot summer.

Ok, I 'll jump into the fray.

I would go to Sullivan's, Gardens at El Paseo in Palm Desert for steak.

Mexican I would go to RosAmarillos in Indio on Avenue 50 at Jefferson Street. Adobe Grill at the LQ Resort is decent, but more pricey.

I would avoid the Las Casuelas restaurants like the plague. Go have a margarita and some nachos at the PS Terraza location for the ambiance if you must, but the food and service have historically stunk for the last 15 years.
