Palm Springs overnight between Las Vegas & Los Angeles
Hi
To break up a long drive, we are thinking of stopping overnight in Palm Springs driving between Las Vegas & Los Angeles .. would you recommend this or an alternative stop to break up the drive. Also, would you spend the night in Palm Springs or Indian Wells ? Thanks |
I personally don't think Las Vegas to LA is a long drive (only about 4-1/2 hrs) but in any event, I think Palm Springs is out of the way -- have you looked at a map?

Palm Springs would add about 2 hours to your drive.
If 4.5 hours is too long of a drive, consider flying. You wouldn't be missing much. |
I agree - either drive straight through or fly. No reason to break the journey.

Palm Springs is sort of a high desert location
Would not be conducive to an overnite stay from Vegas personally would shoot direct to lasightseeing.net like 4 hours usually stay at Westin Bonaventure bid priceline.com from $60 snagged it for $69 when there last. If you do want to go to Palm Springs for me Palm Desert is the prettiest of the towns many lodging options Hyatt my fav probably... Indian Canyons Living Desert and the Tram are the top attractions there and a pitiful casino or 2 But no Vegas... Happy Travels, |
I agree that it isn't necessary to "break up that drive" as you will just be adding hours to an already shortish one. But if you WANT to see more desert and it isn't summer, then you might consider going thru Joshua Tree, 29 Palms and Mojave National Preserve/Kelso Dunes. It's a pretty drive if you like desert scenery, and Kelso Depot and Kelso Dunes are interesting stops. Joshua Tree/29 Palms is high desert, Palm Springs is low desert. You can stay in either, depending on your preference for funky/cheap (the former) or Palm Springs has a choice of small inns or corporate style hotels.

It is about the same distance between Las Vegas and Palm Springs and between Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
That said, if you like deserts, you will enjoy the drive from Las Vegas to Palm Springs going through the Mohave Desert and Joshua Tree NP. Also, we enjoy staying in Palm Spring's bustling downtown. HTTY |
