Palm Springs - Hotel Mojave? Others?
I am looking for a nice - and reasonable! place to stay in Palm SPrings next month. Does anyone know anything about the Hotel Mojave? THey sound interesting, but I am a bit nervous as they appear to have new owners....? Any help/ideas much appreciated!

Hey Rebecca:

Never heard of it. Where is it? And what do you consider 'reasonable'?

PS L

It's near El Paseo. And they quoted me a rate of $129 for a room with two doubles (the 2 bed thing is proving to be my biggest stumbling block - Palm SPrings non-chain places seem to be big on romance (luxurious four-poster king with canopy..& etc.!)Thanks for any help you can give me here!

Rebecca:

I had a chance to see this place.

I was pretty impressed. According to the desk person there *is* a new owner (within the last year) and all of the units have been renovated (completion in about a week on the last ones). The fresh paint was obvious. It isn't an 'upscale' or 'quaint historical' kinda place, but seemed like a good alternative to the chains or resorts. Everything was clean and the grounds were well kept, including the pool. Total of 24 units, some have kitchenettes. I saw both types of rooms and would not have any qualms about staying in either myself.

Great location in Palm Desert about a block south of El Paseo, at San Luis Rey and Shadow Mountain. Plenty of dining, shopping and entertainment in the vicinity.

As someone reasonably familiar with the hospitality product here at all levels, I would say it is worth a shot for the money.

PS L

Family upset prevented my using your advice sooner, but thanks for the input on the Hotel Mojave. We re-scheduled our trip fro early February and got a great rate at a place called the Marquis Hotel. Sounds like an essentially business hotel, but looks comfortable, and, well, Febraury is peak season in Palm SPrings. Thanks again for all the info!

The marquis should be fine. Right downtown and easy walking distance to everything.

PS L
