Palm Springs Car Rental
I wish to rent a car (compact) for one month (February 2005) with pick up downtown Los Angeles and drop-off Palm Springs Airport. Any suggestions on a best monthly rate? Thanks!

My first suggestion would be to start with a service like Travelocity or Expedia. They can give you quotes for such a long-term rental. The "one-way" rental issue isn't a huge deal between LAX and PSP, but they may have a surcharge anyway. The point is, you can get the "low quotes" and then talk with the agencies themselves. I don't know what the insurance requirements are for you as a Canadian driver, so make sure to find out at the outset.
Next, doesn't CAA offer traveler services? AAA does here in the States. If you're a CAA member, you may get discounts for stateside auto rentals, but I don't know. You'll have to do some investigation. Look for deals from your credit cards as well (AmEx, Visa, Mastercard). If you want specific agencies, I tend to use Enterprise for long-term rentals (insurance vehicles, for example). On vacation, Dollar, Budget and Alamo seem to be the ones with the best deals-- but then again, Hertz and Avis can surprise with real rock-bottom rates once in a while. |
Search everything you can. Palm Springs was an unually expensive place to rent a car if I remember correctly.

Have not checked this, so just a thought. Maybe find an Enterprise location in or near downtown LA then drop off at same near PS Airport? I believe there is an Enterprise in Cathedral City perhaps 10 min. from the airport. If you could figure out the ride from the car rental to the airport maybe it would be economical. Best of luck!

Thanks for these helpful suggestions

Enterprise doesn't usually do one way rentals.
Hertz.com looks like your best bet for this, plug in CDP Discount number 157348. (This is US AIRWAYS frequent flier discount..and you can easily get a membership number online at usairways.com...but you probably won't even need it). Also, check back in early January, checking hertz.com and nationalcar.com and avis.com...rates sometimes go down. |
