Palm Springs
 

I know there are lots of people who go to Palm Springs every year, but I rarely see posts here about Palm Springs, and a search brings up only a few (very old) posts.

We will be spending time in Palm Springs in November and would love to hear some suggestions of things to do and see. We plan to take a couple of day trips to Joshua Tree and Death Valley, and will do the architectural self-guided tour in town.

I'd be interested in your favorite things to do/see in Palm Springs and any special restaurant recommendations.

I just think the search function just doesn't work very well. There are a lot of threads about PS. But they do tend to run in cycles -- more questions hit in Fall and winter when people are planning winter/spring trips.

Definitely do the aerial tram - but REALLY dress warmly, it goes up to nearly 9000 feet.

And the Botanical Garden.

How about the Anza-Borrego Desert? We like the drive that goes from Palm Desert to Borrego Springs on 74, 371, and 79. We have lunch at Carlee's Place, in the center of town.

Sometimes we return on 79, 371, and 243, which is also quite scenic.

We also like the Living Desert in Palm Springs. The tram drivers used to give a good narrative, but now it is better to book a tour to get full enjoyment of the place.

Love Palm Springs. We went to Modernism Week a couple of years ago and had a blast. We LOVED our stay at Desert Riviera Hotel (reasonable rates, heated pool and near downtown)....definitely recommend it. You HAVE to check out Pappy and Harriet's (great food and music) near Joshua Tree. It's literally in the middle of nowhere, so get good directions. Fisherman's Market and Grill in downtown PS was great for no-nonsense seafood. Palm Canyon/Indian Canyons is a must. Research the city's mid-century architecture before you get there...and take some bus tours. Just a really neat, laid back town. Have fun!

Palm Springs has one of the country's best pride festivals/parades, Nov. 4-6 this year.

Also a classic/exotic car show will be at the Spa Resort from Nov. 18-20.

IMO Anza Borrego is too far, I have done that drive and don't suggest it.

There is a big visitor center near the drive up to the tram. They also have a very good website.

We really enjoyed going up the tram, having a cocktail. We also loved our easy hike in the palm canyons. So facinating. I think we hiked one of the easier ones: Andreas? We also went out to the Oasis Date Gardens and check out some date farms.

If you enjoy watching polo, while it isn't the official season, there may be something to see. The clubs are in Indio, 2 of them that I know of.
