Palm Desert or Cathedral City??

We have a chance to visit either Palm Desert or Cathedral City? Any thoughts which city would be the most interesting and or the best place to stay or does it not make much difference? We are not interested in the night life or golf.We would be visiting sometime in Jan or Feb. Thanks in advance.

There are many more resorts and upscale shopping and dining in Palm Desert than in Cathedral City Neither is what I would call "interesting". Until recent redevelopment on the main drag (hwy 111) Cathedral City was decidedly down-mArket. Landlords would go out of heir way ( lying if necessary) to make people think their property was in Rancho Mirage instead of CC!

Thank you for your reply, SF7307.

Is Palm Desert not worth a couple days for a getaway? Too far from Palm Springs? Thanks again.

Actually, Palm Desert is where we go for a "getaway". Depends what you're interested in doing. We rarely "sightsee", mostly just hang out -- hit some golf balls, eat, shop, lay around the pool. We've been there many times (we have a timeshare in Palm Desert, but went even before that), up the gondola once, we've hiked in Indian Canyons, we've gone horseback riding, we've gone to an LPGA tournament. Once in awhile we go into Palm Springs itself (about a 25 minute drive from Palm Desert). Palm Desert is closer to Anzo Borrego and Joshua Tree.

Where are you coming FROM and what are you interested in doing?

Oh, do you know that Palm Springs has a film festival in January? It doesn't matter where you stay in the area. My inlaws stayed in La Quinta last year and still went to the film festival at least 4 or 5 days.

Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, CC all run into each other. You have to be paying close attention to know when you leave one and enter the next. Agree that Palm Desert would be better/nicer/more upscale/more shopping & eating places than Cathedral City.

Thank you once more sf and thank you, too, Barbara. We decided to go with Palm Desert. Not sure of our dates yet.
