Palm Desert
Heading to Palm Desert in Mid November with 4 other couples (first time) and would welcome any suggestions for great golf (cost is no object) and fine dining.
|
I have heard (alhough I do not golf) that the best way to find the best golf course is to find a shop which sells clubs, etc. and ask them. If you are renting a condo, many of them in Palm Desert are actually adjacent to golf courses.

Here's a previous thread with some Palm Desert dining and activities suggestions:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34680923 There are so many great golf courses to choose from. My husband's favorites are the ones at the Westin Mission Hills Resort. My friends just bought a house in La Quinta on a PGA West course and rave about those 6 courses. www.pgawest.com. I'm not sure what the prices/rules are for the public. The prettiest golf course I have seen in a long time is Desert Willow: http://www.desertwillow.com/ |
thanks for your help?

meaning?
If you're disappointed in the number of responses, just top your thread everyonce in awhile to get more feedback. Sometimes there are few people who have experience with what you are looking for? In that case, think quality over quantity of tips perhaps. |
I agree about PGA West (particularly the TPC Stadium is a challenge) and La Quinta. But: I just returned from there and they had only one course open (Mountain) due to over-seeding their grass in order to prepare the courses for the winter (the predominant Bermuda is dormant over the winter), so make sure to call ahead. I seem to recall that Mountain, too, was scheduled to be closed down by the end of last week (maybe they'll have the Dunes or the Citrus open by then).
BTW this might be an issue with a number of courses in the area without wanting to rain on your parade! It is still a great area and you should be able to find some enjoyable courses. Apart from that, I think the courses at the JW Marriott in Palm Desert proper are pretty nice, too. |
amwosu, I was wondering about the question mark too. I prefer to think that it was just a typo, and not a snarky response. :)

Sorry about the ? it was a typo; I always apreciate any and all responses on this site and use it every time I go to an area for the first time. For Golf I've lined up Valley Course at Marriot, Landmark (South), Tahquitz (Resort), Shadow Ridge, PGA West (Nicklaus), Desert Willow (Mountain), Silver Rock and hoping for Bighorn. Dining reservations are at Mikado, Sullivan's, Azur (La Quinta) and Paseo del Notre. Obviously I place more emphasis on golf. Will report back later!!! (no ? Mark)
