Palm Desert
Any suggestions for a family trip
to Palm desert??? Ages 1-77... We have accomodations near Marriot on Country Club. Good live music???Events?? Is a drive to Joshua Tree worthwhile if you have a senior traveller???Fave things to do??? |
Do you play golf or tennis?
How long a trip? We go to Palm Desert every year for 5 or 6 days, but all we do is sit by the pool, shop and eat. We sometimes throw in a movie or golf. There is a nice hike on the Agua Caliente reservation that we did years ago with our kids (they were 7 and 9 at the time). We also went horseback riding with them in the desert. |
In between rounds of golf or tennis matches, I've always thought it'd be fun to take a hot air balloon ride.

Living Desert zoo/bighorn reserve, straight uphill on Monterey past El Paseo.
If you're not going in the heat, the Coachella fringe toe lizard preserve is interesting. You won't see any lizards necessarily but there's a natural oasis. Check the two weekly newpsaper magazines for events and entertainment, you should be able to pick one up at the supermarket or your accomodations. |
When are you going and what are your interests?
The obvious suggestions are the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and hiking at the top, The Living Desert (mentioned above), shopping on El Paseo and the outlets at Cabazon, Casinos, and museums - Art, Air and General Patton to name a few. A hot air balloon ride would be fun but they do have an age limit which would leave out your 1 year old. |
