pale male

i just watched a wonderful pbs show about pale male. does anybody know if he is still on 5th ave? or maybe the kids have established their own upscale homes.

I remember seeing that show. I really liked it too. I do know that he first showed up in the 1990s. His nest was destroyed, I want to say about 2 or 3 years ago and it was in the news. I 'd love to know the answer too!

Pale Male, Lola & family still live in the 5th Avenue/Central Park area and bird watchers spot them and other hawks every day. You might find info on bird-watching here:

There is a wonderful website devoted to Pale Male and his family and of course it's www.palemale.com. I visited the site a few days ago, and it seems that one of his kids is the same coloring and was spotted recently in the city as well.

I caught this show the other night, wonderful! Thanks Virginia for posting the question I was also wondering.

how foolish of me not to assume this bird would have his own web site. and it has beautiful photos for us to look at. apparently updated daily. today it suggesets the last of this years babies will fledge. i am bookmarking.
i recall hearing about the destruction of the nest and the fight that ensued to allow it back. glad pale male had the better legal representation.

Pale Male is the most famous, but not our only hawk!

virgina,

Thanks for posting this. I've seen this special before, but caught a bit of it again. Hawks are my very favorite birds and it's so interesting to see how they adapt to circumstances.

Living the in the Utah mountains, we have plenty of hawks and eagles in the wild of our own to enjoy. I'm glad to see they are doing quite well in NYC!

dohlice - wow that's some article.

Sweet/sad isn't it? Hopefully it will be released back today or tomorrow. The parents seem to be searching and waiting.

Well, the New York Magazine of July2-9, 2007, has a little note about wild animals in NYC. Including Pale Male. His exact address is "top middle window on the park side of 927 5th Ave (at 74th St.)

A few weeks ago we were walking in central park and saw pale male and his SO on branches of trees. He was happily eating a bird that he killed, all the while smiling for photographers taking his picture. Official PM watchers were there, dutifully expounding to all who would listen on the history and habits of these interesting creatures in a most non-traditional setting. ((*))

If you're interested in this I HIGHLY recommend the book "Red Tails in Love: A Wildlife Drama in Central Park." It's very good.

Thanks for updating this thread!
