Paia in Maui

Anybody know of a nice place to stay around Paia? I'm going to Maui for a weekend in Jan. to go swimming and I remember having a good time bodysurfing at Baldwin Beach years ago on a weekend trip but I forgot where I stayed.

I found one that is 10 minutes away from Paia---it is called "Peace of Maui" and the info below is from the hotel info.

This Upcountry getaway is ideal for budget-minded travelers who want to be out and active all day. Well situated for accessing the rest of the island, it's only 15 minutes from Kahului and less than 10 from Paia, Ha'iku, and Makawao. Six modest double rooms in a "lodge" have pantries and mini-refrigerators. The kitchen, two bathrooms, and living room are shared. An amply equipped separate cottage (including fresh-cut flowers) sleeps four to six and overlooks the North Shore and the West Maui Mountains. You'll have sweeping views of rainbow-washed pineapple fields here. If you're lucky, the family dog will sit near the Jacuzzi while you relax after a hard day's adventuring. www.peaceofmaui.com. 6 rooms with shared bath, 1 cottage. Refrigerators, cable TV, hot tub, Internet room; no a/c. No credit cards.

Belle, right now the score is Alabama 31, Florida 3 with just a couple minutes to go.

Don't know how much you want to pay, but Spy Glass House is another option.

I recommend the cottages at Banyan Tree House, which is between Paia and Makawao. Lovely old plantation buildings with modern decor. Great pool and spa. Cottage prices range from $85 to $125 per night. http://hawaii-mauirentals.com/

You're braver than I to bodysurf at Baldwin in January!

I adore this place. Have stayed here myself and love it. It is behind the firehouse, next to the Mantokuji Soto Mission, and walking distance to town and Pa`ia Beach virtually across the street from Charley's. The place is very private and waterfront, has a hot tub and pool and is affordable. But, like most north shore rentals, it has a 7 night minimum.

Another one is Polly Paia, which is closer to Baldwin. I've not stayed there, but I have been in the downstairs unit. Again, I think they have a 7 night min.

You can sometimes get lucky though and find a place with a break between reservations and they will rent it out to fill in the gap. You can check with hookipa.com, maui.cc or windsurfari.com to see what they might have that has a few open days that might work for you for a weekend.
