Paging "GoTravel".....

The FFR&R is probably going to get whacked so thought I would answer your comments on weights here. I replied to you a few weeks ago on the FF&R thread when you mentioned weight-lifting to me but you apparently missed it. I HAVE been doing weights twice a week since early November, and people think I've lost more weight than I actually have, in part, I think, because of that. Thanks for your comments! (I'm quite happy with the rate I'm losing, really; I'm eating in a way that I can eat from now on........ I've averaged losing about 4 - 1/2 pounds a month which is fine!)

I feel sorry for you. from so many of your posts it is so clear you became obssesed with your weight loss We see this behavior very often in our patients. Get help before you start driving your friends, family, posters crazy.

Bonnie how wonderful! People often don't like to lift weights because they think it will bulk them up but that isn't the case!

Congrats and think of all the wonderful benefits such as warding off osteoperosis!

YIKES--What the heck Mama?? This woman has decided to make a healthy change in her life and in the process of posting here has inspired some others to do the same.
She specifically addressed the thread to another Fodorite who has been supportive of her mission and you type in a snide and mean response.
I have never jumped into any of the bickering that goes on on this website but your message absolutely made my blood boil. Go back to bed and then get up on the other side and see if that improves your nasty disposition ( as my Mama used to tell me)

Hey Bonnie, you go girl! Great job! I'm in total agreement with you and GoT (and just posted same on the long trip beauty trip thread). I'm a huge believer in the benefits of working out (running and ballet) and also do free weights when i join hubby at the club (for upper body). Being physically fit makes a HUGE difference in EVERYTHING ~ including attitude - and it shows in your positive and fun spirit Bonnnie. Keep up the grrrrreat work! And keep us posted!

Sorry, y'all. I hate to be so ugly, but I can't stand comments like the one from Mama.

Congrats, Bonnie-not-so-broad! I am proud of you and so glad youa re making this a lifestyle change instead of just giong on a weight loss binge like so many fad dieters do. Please continue telling us your progress. It's inspiring!

I JUST got back from water class, thank you, Iceeu2!!! Made SURE I was back before the Carolina/Georgia Tech game at 1:30........ Then there'll be the Duke/NC State game at 4:00. Wow, we do love March Madness down here on Tobacco Road!!!

Iceeu2, Duke vs. NC State??? I would never bet my retirement that Puke will lose a game.......... just hope so, with every fiber of my being!!! EVERYBODY TOGETHER NOW:::: GO WOLFPACK!!! (After you've helped me yell for Carolina, of course! )

(Oh, as for Mama... I hope her day has brightened since she felt the need to *have at* me. )

Count me in as another poster obsessed with her weight! ;-) Hey when you hit 40 you better be obsessed IMO or you are going to end up in a wheelchair! I see 80 year old women pumping iron at our Community Center and then I see my Aunt who is in her 80's doesn't do a darn thing has high blood pressure, can't walk very far and takes a ton of pills! I know which group I want to be in!

Good for you Bonniebroad!

Water classes are great. Have you tried "water walking" yet? That is an incredible exercise. My gym has hand held water weights so you get resistance for your upper body too. It burns lots of calories and no harm to your knees or joints.

Hurray for Bonnie! I am proud of you too, girl. You've worked hard to accomplish what you have--it takes more will power than most people have and any bit of help and encouragement we can give, we are more than happy to give it. Keep on talking and we'll all celebrate your progress with you.

I have a girlfriend here who has lost 40 lbs over the past couple of years. She just ran her first marathon in Phoenix at age 40 something.

I can think of little that improves your appearance and frame of mind more than continual well rounded workouts. My classmates at my health club gave me a going away luncheon the other day...what a sweet group, almost all of them 20 years younger than I am. One of the instructors told me that I was her role model...and that she hoped she could look like me when she (got old)! LOL Regular physical exercise takes years off your appearance--make it your sport and you'll do it forever.

Now, to insert a travel related question, does anyone know of a facility in San Antonio where they do both Body Pump and Spin, where classes are small and people are friendly. That is my first order of business when I hit town! I've got to find a fabulous health club, and fast.

OO I'm sure you will not have any problems finding a great health club!

Exercise is so much a part of my life that I feel weird if I don't do something every day.

I taught aerobics for years but burnt out on that and one day started running. I run about 2 1/2 to 5 miles 5-7 times a week. I weight lift 1-2 times.

I'm running a 10K in two weeks and in the lottery (again) for the NYC Marathon. Keep your fingers crossed!

Good going GT! It really gets in your blood, doesn't it? I doubt you'll ever quit and I won't either. Best of luck with your race(s)--hopefully you will make the draw in the lottery. I have a girlfriend/workout buddy here, 57, who has walked the NY marathon twice. She just got back from a 10 day hike through Patagonia with some of her Colorado friends (she and her husband have a house here and one in CO) who range in age from about 52 to 67...they hiked to glaciers, rappelled the face of one after climbing a portion with crampons and ice picks! They scrambled over boulders the size of people on one signature hike, and stayed in Refugio's all along the way...amazing the younger set also in the Refugio's with them. I've been out to CO skiing with her (and would be there right now if it weren't for this blankety blank move). What an amazing bunch of women I met in general in CO--most all of them were so fit and the pictures of health, no matter the age! Retirement for them doesn't mean a rocker on the front porch or a lounge chair on the beach. When I grow old I shall wear purple....and all that good stuff! I might even learn to spit.

OO, Annabel and Buckeyemom, thank you, too, for your kind words! Maybe some of the weight coming off is from all you nice people patting me SO HARD on the back with every pound I lose....... Speaking of which, the 39th pound came off as of today. It's been sooooooooooooo long since I saw my current weight!

OO and GoTravel, I so admire the fitness routines that you're both into. Some of the women that I work out with at the Y are into their 70's, and one of them will do two kinds of classes, one right after another. Part of my success is that I have a partner in crime, a neighbor/friend, who started with me two months into this (it's almost nine months now for me), and I know that's made it easier. She never wavers in her support, and I try to do the same for her. We compare and sometimes share meals & calories, both at home and eating out, and one is always ready to exercise if the other wants to. We're now doing three water aerobics a week, two weight-lifting sessions combined with biking, and at least one long walk on the weekend. We never thought that, at 61 and 57 years of age, we'd be doing this....... but we're so glad we are!!!

Thank you all again, and GoTravel, good luck with your race! OO, hope you find a great club in Texas. Annabel, water walking is part of our routine at the Y. (I think, if more women realized how FUN water exercise is combined with the excellent workout it gives, they'd be right in that pool!) Happy work-outs to all!

Kudos to everyone who has the "ooomph" to put down the remote and box/bag/plate of your fave poison and get out and become active again.

I will start the removal of my "tool shed" next week. PROMISE!!!

Mrs Kal just did her 1st 12k of the season and on to SF this weekend for another one.

GT, ever think of doing the Chicago Marathon in Oct? Mrs K has signed up and there is a rumor of a possible Chicago Area GTG wrapped around it.

OO would your friend be willing to post a trip report on her Patagonia adventure? Three of my best friends from high school and I are celebrating our sixtieth birthdays next year by doing just such a trip.
Go, Bonnie! Even though you don't cheer on my Demon Deacons we are sisters in the weight control/ healthy living zone and that works for me!

cmcfong, thank you, thank you! Actually, I DO cheer for your Demon Deacons sometimes........ unless they're playing UNC. Then I HAVE to do otherwise........... even though I grew up right outside Winston-Salem. It must have been those gorgeous blue & white uniforms that caught my eye at an impressionable age! You gotta admit....... we've got the prettiest uniforms in the country, now don't we?
