Paducah, KY or Clarksville, TN for overnight stop?

Hi all--
My husband and I are driving with our three kids (8, 5, and almost 2) from Asheville, NC to Kansas City, MO next month, and we're looking to break up the drive. I've been looking online at both Paducah and Clarksville, and they both sound very interesting. Paducah has a slight edge because it's almost exactly at the halfway point, whereas Clarksville will break up the trip to 345 miles the first day and 519 miles the second. Trying to break the driving into reasonable chunks of time for the kids is obviously an important concern, but if we're stopping overnight I'd like it to be a nice place. So, any suggestions? Which to choose? Thanks in advance!

I'd go for Paducah. You probably shouldn't leave the longest part of the drive to the second day. Good luck.

Thank you, Wayne. Do you have any other reasons for recommending Paducah besides breaking up the trip evenly?

I have a different suggestion that wouldn't add too may miles to your trip.

From Knoxville, TN take I-75 north to Lexington, Ky. From there take I-64 to St. Louis and then I-70 to Kansas City.

Cumberland Falls is gorgeous. You could drive around horse farms near Lexington.
Louisville has Louisville Slugger Museum and Kentucky Derby Museum.

I don't think the kids will care either way. Just see which place has better (or cheaper) motels. And there are places to stay between those two as well. For example, Kuttawa, KY has lots of motels. It's where I-24 and the Ford & Carroll Parkways merge, near the Land Between The Lakes state park.

You can even go visit the park if you get there early enough the 1st day.

Thank you-- all those ideas sound like they're worth looking into.
