packing for New York City,Easter weekend
Travelling to New York City on the Easter weekend. Hope the weather is spring like. we have tickets to the Lincoln Center for South Pacific and reservations at the River Cafe on another night. I would like to pack the appropriate outfits. What do the ladies where? I don't want to be underdressed. Short, long cocktail, business?? Help save my suitcase from over cramming.

The average high is in the mid 50s, the average low in the upper 30s.
I'd recommend black pants, comfy (but stylish) boots, layers, a raincoat with a zip in/zip out liner. |
I don;t know anyone who wears long dresses or even cocktail dresses to go out to dinner or the theater. At Lincoln cener you will see everything from jeans to business casual. I tend to wear something comfy to the theater since you're sitting for so long - but that usually means a nice pantsuit or good slacks/skirt and sweater outfit.
For River Cafe dress I would do smart casual - or a little more if you want - but definitely not a "cocktail" dress that's bare or ha sequins or similar - that's over the top.. It could be a nice pants outfit or beautiful pencil skirt and cashmere sweater. And accessories are important - nothing ruins an outfit more than dowdy shoes. I believe men have to wear jackets but I'm not sure - you should check. My beau always does a blazer at least if we go to dinner at someplace a little special - of naturally a suit if he comes from work. (Inn law partner means a suit.) |
Sorry - long dresses are usually only for weddings or very formal events - perhaps a reception for somone famous at the Met or something.

I went to South Pacific last month, and I can tell you that people aren't super dressed up for it. Business casual is good enough; there were definitely men who wore jacket & tie and women in pant suits, but there were folks who were in jeans as well.
