Packing for Alaska?

We will be on a small, adventure style cruise on the inside passage at the end of May. Any "don't forget" packing suggestions?

HHHMM... I hope you get many responses, but here is my 2 cents...
-binoculars
-lots of film/batteries
-layers, as it may go from warm to cold and back again, hat, gloves, scarf for wind
-very comfortable walking/hiking shoes, maybe waterproof and good hiking socks like from the Walking Company for example
-Have an awesome time !!!

Do Not forget your binaculars. also find a highly detailed map of the inside passage at a book store so you know what you are seeing and where you are going while on the cruise. Oh and rain gear. Ketchican gets 12 FEET of rain per year.

Silk long underwear--very thin and light, but warm
Thin knit gloves, earband
Small backpack for keeping layers in

Hat, gloves and a down jacket to wear when sailing.

Would your answers be the same if the cruise were in early August (when I am taking it)? LOL

Yes, but in both cases I would include t-shirts as well. It may be very warm

If your cabin has windows, take eye covers to sleep in. I could never get the windows covered up enough to sleep well with the non stop sunlight.

One bit of advice I got before we did our Alaska trip was "you can't take enough film". That was very true. Also did a small adventure type boat. Loved it! You've made a good choice.

We went late May into June, and actually wore shorts a couple of days! Take a rainsuit - but maybe you'll be as lucky as we were and not need it. And, comfortable hiking boots are a must. Make sure they are broken in, not new.

Just thought of one more thing - they sold maps of the inside passage on our boat. That naturalist was kind enough to mark our route on it. It's a great memento of the trip.

One excellent piece of advice I got from Budget Queen: take nylon pants instead of jeans. They dry so much faster! I'm a jeans kind of gal, but I left them home and was glad I did - rain was no problem! And I borrowed silk long undies from a friend - Abram's right - they were awesomely warm, yet thin enough to wear underneath anything. Have a great time!
