Pacific's Edge vs Sierra Mar

My husband and I are driving down the coast for our 10 year anniversary. We will be driving from Half Moon Bay to Carmel - staying at the Tickle Pink. That night is our anniversary dinner. Should we go to Pacific's Edge, or keep driving south to Sierra Mar for a great dinner? Keep in mind two things: The next day we are driving through Big Sur heading down the coast. We could always have lunch at Sierra Mar or Nepenske and enjoy the view from Big Sur then. Also, we are people with very simple tastes in food. We would probably enjoy salmon or filet mignon for dinner - nothing too funky. Any recommendations?

Nepenthe. Please take into consideration that the fog often limits one's view. You're on the right track.

Several people have posted several opinions on this issue recently. If your statements are true for both of you, there will be no disappointments anywhere you've mentioned.

Pacific's Edge is one of my favorites-it is very gourmet but it is not the usual steak and seafood type restaurant. Mission Ranch is also a favorite with a more traditional steak, prime rib and seafood menu. Have not been to Sierra Mar but I never miss lunch at Nepenthe. The view is fabulous and never had a problem with fog at lunch. Arrive early for the best outdoor tables. Driving hwy 1 at night would be foggy, I would opt to stay in the Carmel area for your aniversary dinner.

I've dined at both places and enjoyed each very, very much. I think I would go to Pacific's Edge since you're staying next door. Have lunch at Sierra Mar the next day since you'll be going there anyway. :)

We recently enjoyed a birthday dinner at Bouchee in downtown Carmel. We'll be staying at the Highland's Inn again in August for three nights so we'll be able to sample some more great places. Grasings, The Sardine Factory and Tarpey's Roadhouse are on my list of places to try. Happy Anniversary! ***kim*** ((#))

Don't miss lunch at Sierra Mar.
Nepenthe is a fun place to stop, but the food is not great and is overpriced. For yummy and tasty food and unbeatable views ($$$ though, but worth it) I would pick Sierra Mar.

This year I am looking forward to trying Sierra Mar instead of Nepenthe, thanks imaq! I love Tarpy's..they have the best fire-roasted artichokes and great steaks and seafood. I also like dinner at the Inn at Spanish Bay..I think it's called Roy's. Last year we were told to try the Whaling Station and it was OK but the service wasn't great. Probably won't go back there. Cassanova has been good every time I have been there (the best creme brulee)but I could do without the waiter with the fake french accent. Have a great trip!
