Pacific'o or I'o ?
Hi! I want to make reservations for our anniversary dinner at one of the two of these places. I tried to go to their website to get an idea of what each was like but the links are all down. We want a sunset view and something nice but relaxed where DH can wear shorts and sandals etc. I found a site that had sample menus but I had a hard time seeing a difference. We will be at the Maui Marriott that night so we want something in that area and after looking at lots of suggestions here these two seemed to be mention often. Can anyone shed any light?

Is there a restaurant in Maui where you cannot wear shorts and sandals?
Unless I am mistaken, I'O is much more upmarket, expensive, elegant food presentation, etc. We had a great meal there a few years ago. Isn't Pacific'o right across the walkway and much more casual, or am I confused? |
Went to Pacific O once. As I recall, several guys had on shorts/slippers, sandals. Great view, right on the ocean. Food was very good.
You may want to call them for dress code, just in case. |
I`o is more intimate and has a hipper, po-mo feel to it. Pacific`o has much more lawn seating and is more open, great for people watching. I am fairly convinced that I`o has the best crab cake on the island, but more research will be in order before the final verdict is rendered.
Short and slippahs go anywhere. Dress DH in his dress shorts and an aloha shirt and he'll be fine. |
Thanks for the replies! Just one more question for the ever helpful Here Today...what's po-mo....pardon my stupidity!

Both Pacifico and I'o have the same chef/owner - James McDonald. An incredible chef who does wicked things with food! Either way you'll get a great dinner.

Mmmm, this is making me hungry and crazy to go NOW! Five more days!! Okay my erudite college son says po-mo is post modern...I then had to get that definition...is he right??
|
Both are great... I slightly prefer the menu and atmosphere at I'O.
|
Your son is correct--po-mo is post-modern. Sorry, I am a designer and I forget sometimes that people don't always follow me when I make artsy references.
When we eat at Pacific`o or I`o we usually go early and check out the nightly specials and then make our decision as to which one. I have never had trouble getting a table outside. |
Travel folks are so nice! I love getting all this input. I also got some unexpected help at the car wash of all places! I noticed a man with personalized plates with "Maui" as part of it so I asked if he was a Maui lover. He goes at least once a year and is really into gourment dining. He e-mailed me pictures he had taken of his meal at Pacific'O and after looking at them my mind was made up! THREE MORE DAYS!
