Pacific Grove Restaurants
 

We will be in Pacific Grove for a week.

Looking for the best suggestions, where the local go (money no object but good food) preferably with a ocean view when possible, for Breakfast & dinners and a great Bakery & picnic offerings

Also would like suggestions for casual late lunch/early dinner in Carmel or Carmel by the Sea and Monterey.

We are also loking for best Buffet Sunday Brunch...

Passion Fish.

Loved the Red House. Very casual, no sea view, great crabcakes and excellent desserts. Have fun.

Very few places with ocean views in Pacific Grove.

Village Corner in Carmel.

Phil's Fish Market, Moss Landing. Great view if you take your fish and go eat on the beach. Go casual.

Go to Lovers Point and have a picnic. {Missed the view requirement in OP}

All of the above mentioned restaurants and for a casual lunch or breakfast go the the PG Municipal Golf Course restaurant. I can't remember the name, but it has a view and the food is good. The Monterey Bay Aquarium has a restaurant with the best ocean views!You always see otter and last time we were there a baby whale. Cindy Pawclyn of Napa Valley Mustards has taken over the kitchen and it is very good.

Red House in PG no view but good food, they are now serving dinner too.

Stix in Spanish Bay it is the golf course restaurant has beautiful views, without the prices of Roy's upstairs.

If you have a car many good restaurants close to PG ~ The Fish House on Del Monte Ave.

DO NOT east at the FISHWIFE!! dirtiest restaurant I have been in.

Back to say if you have time and a car, Carmel Valley usually sunnier than Carmel, it takes about 1/2 hr. to drive there worth the trip to eat at Cafe Rustica or Corkscrew Cafe. Corkscrew is owned by the Casanova restaurant in Carmel, both good food.

The restaurant at the Intercontinental Hotel has an excellent breakfast with great views of the water and sea lions and otters. It is next door to the Monterey Bay Aquarium which is near the border of Pacific Grove and Monterey.

For an inexpensive meal, we enjoy eating at Petra, a mediterranean cafe.

The Edge Restaurant at Highlands Inn, Carmel HAS the best view. Make a reservation so you can watch the sun set. Food is excellent, service impeccable. The bar also has a nice view if you decide to go for drinks.

The Restaurant at Mission Ranch has a nice view although not near as beautiful. Nice outside dining area. Entertaining piano bar - watch all the locals sitting round the piano bar.

for another great view go down hwy 1 to Napenthe. Casual with great views.

The Fish Hopper at Cannery Row is on a Pier over the water and has very nice views of the bay. Food is excellent, too. There are several restaurants on the Monterey Wharf that have nice views as well. Have been to the one on the end but can't find the name. Standard fare.

We've only been there once but we loved Passionfish.

Parker Lusseau in Monterey for great pastries but get there early. By early afternoon they're sold out of almost everything. Also they only take cash.

Good eats in Carmel - Basil, Mundaka (dinner only), Cantinetta Luca, La Bicyclette, Casanova - all casual.

We had a nice lunch at Lokal in Carmel Valley last month and also like Cafe Rustica there.

The view at Pacific's Edge at Highlands Inn IS incredible but we had a very disappointing dinner there last year. For fine dining, I've found Aubergine in Carmel to be much better in terms of food quality but no view (well, they do have a peak a boo view from a few tables).

We enjoyed Le Normandie for a nice french dinner and Peppers for mexican.

Oh, I forgot to mention, friends (as well as som posters on Fodors) highly recommend Bistro Moulin.

There are no oceanfront restaurants in Pacific Grove. The city doesn't allow building on the ocean side of the street, and the only two that were grandfathered in are currently closed for renovations.

However, there are a *lot* of good restaurants in PG, mostly along the main street of Lighthouse Avenue. Passionfish (seafood), Red House (Calif. cuisine), Petra (Greek), Pacific Thai, La Normandie, and others are all good bets. For Mexican, I prefer Mando's to Pepper's. And when you get tired of all that there's burgers at 17th Street Grill.

Don't forget An Choi, which is at the far end of Lighthouse Ave (near Asilomar and the lighthouse itself). Great Asian / fusion food.

Does anyone have a Sunday buffet (not ala carte) brunch that they could rec anywhere in Carmel, Monterey?
