Pacific Beach Hotel - Oahu
My wife and I will be spending a few nights at the Pacific Beach Hotel on Waikiki in mid July. I would appreciate any comments anyone has on this hotel: Location; comfort; food; service etc. We are, I believe, staying in an "ocean front" room.
We will also be staying at the Westin Maui and Sheraton Kaui, however these resorts have been covered quite comprehensively in previous posts.
We're travelling from Scotland, so any other "general" tips on vacationing in Hawaii would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Rob

I stayed there while at a conference. The room I had was great, big and comfy with a little deck to look over the ocean. How I ended up with that room when there were 10 other teachers from my school also, I don't know! The rooms that they had that were not ocean view were not as big. The food was good (mind you it was conference for teachers, we like anything free! haha) The staff seemed okay but the front desk wasn't overly helpful.

The Pacific Beach Hotel is right across the street from the beach and has great views from the oceanfront rooms, partial views from other rooms. You are close to all the activities of Waikiki, both in the water (catamaran sailboat or outrigger canoe rides) and the night life- Hawaiian music in many of the hotels at sunset.
(cont.) A couple of the restaurants in the hotel are next to the "Oceanarium", an aquarium 50' wide x 25' high x 25' back from the glass- you can watch the fish being fed while you dine. Food is good, too. We live nearby, so haven't stayed in the hotel to know about the service.

Thanks to Kim and David for your comments. Once the jet-lag has worn off, I'm sure we'll have a great time.

The only thing strange about the Pacific Beach Hotel is, it seems as if they haven't renovated the place since the 70s. But the staff is really pleasant. My favorite escape is to the nearby Hawaiian Regent Hotel (just one block away), which offers up some of the best live Hawaiian music in the evenings at their Lobby Bar.
