Thanks for the dining recommendations Nanabee. I ate at Sammy's in 2008 and want to go there again. My friend wants to go to El Pescador as she has been there before. Sadly, I don't eat seafood at all and to my surprise they don't offer a token nonseafood entre (not counting a salad). That's hardcore! I foresee myself picking up a burger at Burger Lounge or In and Out after I accompany my friend to Pescador!

If you want fine dining - go to La Tapanede in La Jolla - and the Cocktail hour menu (served in the bar) is reasonable - and tres bien. :)

I love Tapenade as well, however it is very pricey. Very! But maybe the cocktail hour is ok. They wanted to keep to restaurants that were not quite as upscale I believe. If not, and they want really good food - then Tapenade is a must.
