PA: Philadelphia Concert
I'm going to a concert at the Wachovia Center. Can anyone recommend a good restaurant nearby?.

The Wachovia Center is among several venues clustered together in South Philadelphia -- Lincoln Financial Field, the Wachovia Spectrum and, soon, Citizens Bank Park -- in a great sea of parking spaces. In other words, there's not much nearby. Depending on where you're coming from, you could eat in any number of places in South Philly and then move on to the concert.

Depends on what you're looking for.
If you head north on Broad St., you'll run into what's knows as the Avenue of the Arts and lots of restaurants. Consider going to Upstares (yes, that's how it's spelled) at Varalli's. Ask for a table overlooking Broad St. Want to go cheap? Try Crinetti's on Broad. Small, Italian, family place. No liquor license, cheap prices. |
You are not far from the S. Philly restaurants. Closest ones are in a strip center around 15th and Packer--there are two, both casual: Chickie and Pete's, which is a crab and beer joint, and Celebre's pizza, which has some of the best pizza in the area (IMHO). Ralph's Italian is on 9th street near Catherine or Christian streets and is one of the top red-gravy haunts in the city (again, IMHO). Enjoy!

Another Italian restaurant that is in walking distance is Popi's on 3120 S 20th Street.
Their crab cakes are great! |
