PA interstate 81 weather conditions
 

Does anyone know where I can find info about weather conditions along I-81 in PA? I'm driving to New England on Thursday, and I would like to know how the road conditions are before I leave. I've encountered lots of fog on this road in the past, and I will avoid this road if it's foggy on Thursday. Anybody have any ideas?

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has a website which gives conditions on the major highways. Sorry I don't have the address, but I'm sure you'll find it with a search on the Department. Have a good trip!

Many years ago when I used to occasionally travel that route from CT to central PA in the winter I would call the State Police barracks in the area before I left to ask about ice and snow. I am not sure exactly what city they're in but you can probably find out somehow. They may not have particularly appreciated my call but I always got an answer.

Certain stretches of I-81 in the elevated areas north and south of Scranton are consistently foggy during the morning hours. This condition has occurred during my travels there at every possible time of year but the fog has almost always lifted or burned off by later morning - 11:00 or so. oerhaps you could time your travel to accomodate this.

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably leave DC at about 10am. I hope this will be late enough to avoid the fog.
