P.E.M. Peabody/Essex Museum
Salem Ma. The current exhibit is the works "boxes" of Joseph Cornell. I'm a big fan and read his biography "Utopia Highway."
I wonder why they call it the EssexPeabody when it's not in those towns but in Salem? |
I believe it was named after the merger of 2 or 3 smaller institutions ( I remember seeing something about it when I was there last year) How is the Cornell exhibit, by the way?
|
The Peabody Essex Museum was the result of a merger between the Essex Institute and the "Peabody Museum of Salem", which was named after the family not the town (which was also named after the family). Essex is the county in which the towns of Salem, Essex, and Peabody are found.

It was wonderful if you enjoy his works like I do, it was exhibited in several rooms. In the gift shop. I bought special box they sold to create your own Cornell but I used the sections to display my shells and other organic finds from trips.

P.S. thanks for the explanation, I always forgot to ask when there. Th outside dining was not open, so we ate at Rockafellas.
|
Saw the exhibition when it was in Washington DC earlier this year. I have to say, even though I like Cornell, I didn't like this exhibition too much. Maybe it was too much of the same thing...

This is a FANTASTIC museum. Very well laid out. The best museum in the area by far. The cafeteria is even nicely done and reasonable for lunch. And the children's section is particularly remarkable--very hands on and doesn't "baby" kids like other children-themed exhibits do.
