Owen's Motel in Nag's Head?

Has anyone stayed at this mom and pop motel located on the ocean at Nag's Head? I have reservations at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk with balcony overlooking the ocean, but I just found this on the Net and they have one ground floor efficiency available. I think we would like to cook our own breakfest and grill fresh fish a few times. Please help if you can in making this decision.

Owen's Motel is an older budget property. It's well maintained but definitely reflects an older era. Unit ACs. The Hilton is very new, opened earlier this year.

Personally, I'd enjoy the ocean view from the balcony at the Hilton and let someone else do the cooking. Lots of places do big traditional breakfasts. Pots On is one of my favorites, on 158 just before the bridge to the OBX.

Thanks obxgirl for both replies. It is a tough decision to make. I thank you for telling me it is well maintained. I think I am going to go with Owens. It is 300.00 cheaper and since it has a kitchen, we can save that way also. Thanks again.

cd, Please post a trip report when you get back!

My favorite seafood market is Carawan's, Milepost 1 on your right shortly after crossing the Albemarle Sounnd.

I will post when we return. We will be there over Labor Day. Thanks for the seafood market recommendation. We will use it. Are you familiar with Whalbones? Owens told me it is a seafood market within walking distance to their motel.

I don't know about the motel part, but their restaurant is excellent. Upscale.

Whalebone Seafood Market is great. It's my mother's backup if Carawan's is out of whatever she's after. Me, I'm too lazy to drive that far down the beach.

I agree with Curious about Owens restaurant. Very good.

You'll be pleased with Whalebone.

I also like Whalebones seafood mart. I go more often to the very good fresh seafood market at the Seamark grocery store in the Outer Banks mall, very close to where you'll be. The fish is very good and fresh there and is less expensive than the stand-alone seafood marts. They also steam shrimp and other seafood free there.

Wow emd thanks! We may never make it to a restaurant!
