Overnight Stay - DFW Airport
 

We have an overnight layover at DFW airport. We'll arrive about 9pm so want a reasonably cheap hotel but preferably one within walking distance of a restaurant - a chain one would be ok. Any recommendations please?

My mom stayed at the Red Roof Inn at DFW. Here's their web page, you might want to call them to ask if any of these restaurants are within walking distance.

There is a Hyatt in the airport, recently remodeled. If your flying on American, the skylink train takes you right to it. I was just there, very nice.

But please what ever you do, stay away from the Ramada Inn at the airport and The Harvey..... FILTHY!

There are NO restaurants within walking distance from the Red Roof Inn. Fortunately, the Harvey is now a Westin, and it had a major renovation.

If you don't want to rent a car, I'd highly recommend the Holiday Inn Express at Grapevine Main Street and 114. The cab ride shouldn't cost much more than $20, and you'll have about 8 restaurants within walking distance. (Try the Flips Patio Grill; it's a local favorite!)

Tere are 2 Hyatts at DFW.

One is very new, the Grand Hyatt DFW, about 1 year old, attached to terminal D and it's the beter one. You can access it by the Skylink train from any terminal.

The older one, the Hyatt Regency DFW is accesible by a free shuttle.

For a short 1 night stay I would pick the less expensive one.

Both have restaurants and bar on the premises.

I'm no Priceline expert, but don't I recall a post of someone saying if you bid a four (or is it five?) star on Priceline in the airport zone you will get one of the two Hyatts? Someone?

You made me curious Patrick, so I checked.

4* DFW zone there are two hotels listed, the Grand Hyatt and the Westin. Argh...the Westin is the former Harvey Hotel and even with a renovation, I'm not at all sure how they came out the same star level, but that's how it reads.

Hyatt Regency DFW is listed as a Priceline 3* along with a Hilton, Marriott and Sheraton.

The Westin/Harvey sure throws a monkey wrench in a sure fire win of the Grand Hyatt by bidding 4*. As I said, I really can't imagine the Harvey falling into that category no matter what they did to it, but so it goes with Priceline!

Ah, that explains it. My memory of that post is from quite a while back, so there may not have been the Westin/Harvey option thrown into the mix at that point. Or maybe it was originally a guaranteed win of just the Grand Hyatt if four star -- bidding a three star or better would get you one of the Hyatts.
I just remember at the time filing away in the back of my head that if spending a night at DFW, Priceline really looked like it could work. And as I recall the post was about winning really low bids there.

priceline works really well at most tairports.
