Overnight in Albuquerque

Gee, hope I spelled that right!

The focus of a spring trip is going to be Santa Fe, but we will have one quick night in A before catching a mid-morning flight.

I have a coupon for a Best Western that I'd like to use. Can you recommend one? It doesn't have to be right at the airport.

I can recommend one to avoid. The Best Western Executive Suites (off of the I25) is one of the worst hotels ever. I would sleep on the street before I'd go there again.

The Alquerque airport hotels have been uniformly dismal for me. Cleanliness or the lack of it has been a big factor.

There is a La Quinta, believe it's the one called Northeast (or was it Northwest?) that's in a solid builidng with the room doors facing an inside hallway instead of the usual motel type with room doors facing an outside corridor (very noisy). Fairly decent and prices were OK too.

Last month I was in the Marriott on Menaul. Higher prices but worth it.

Otherwise, it appears that the further northward you go away from the airport, the better the hotels.

I think the one obxgirl recommends you avoid is at I-25 and Montgomery/Montano.

The Best Western Rio Grande Inn is near Old Town; I haven't stayed there, but their restaurant is pretty good. It's at Rio Grande and I-40; ask for a room away from the freeway.

There is extensive freeway construction going on on I-40 between Carlisle and Louisiana, so I wouldn't recommend the Marriott which easytraveler mentioned, especially with a mid-morning flight.

Thanks for the 'avoids'.

I was looking at the website for the Rio Grande. Anyone stayed there?

Best Western isn't one of my favorites; that said -- the one near Old Town might be the best choice if the Exec. Suites one is as bad as obxgirl says it is. [that is an easy location].

You can get a decent room for a reasonable $$ using Priceline in ABQ.

Maybe coupons isn't worth it??

We just stayed at Fairfield Inn on Menaul [just off I 25]. Lee Ann is right about construction on Menaul, but Fairfield is right near interstate and wouldn't bee too much of a hassle.

The Fairfield Inn would be a good choice, as the construction on I-40 is east of there.

How's that grandbaby, Deb?

So is the Rio Grande the one near Old Town?

ElendilPickle Nov 15th, 2008 10:20 AM

Yes, the Best Western Rio Grande is at Rio Grande and I-40. If you're coming from Santa Fe, take I-25 south to I-40 west. Rio Grande is the 2nd exit. Turn left and the hotel is on the right just past the freeway underpass.

What Lee Ann said.

[She's doing great Lee Ann! A month old already. Thanks for asking.]
