Outside Vegas - One day tour

Hi everybody,

I'm going to stay in Vegas for 3 days with my family.
What do you sugest to a one day tour outside Vegas ?
Is it possible to go, in one single day, to Lake Powell and Grand Canyon (South rim) ?

best regards

I HIGHLY recommend taking the 4 hour drive to Bryce Canyon...if you leave early you'll have plenty of time to spend in the park and get back to Vegas in the PM. I posted a trip report about our experience there.

If you don't want to travel that far, then my second choice would be the 1.3-2 hour drive to Zion National Park.

I mean this in the nicest possible way. Please get a map and look up mileage. With 3 days you barely have time to see Las Vegas let alone go several hundred miles (each way) away for a day trip. Perhaps you are really not aware just how far these places are.

Close to Las Vegas are two lovely sites, Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire. Both would make nice day trips without for such a short time as you have.

oops, , meant to say "both would make nice day trips without driving endless hours for such a short time as you have".

Sorry Lori, but I disagree.

Unless RMPC is in Vegas JUST to see Vegas, taking one of the 3 days to go one of the great parks in the area is worth the time.

Red Rock Canyon and VOF don't even come close to the majestic beauty of Bryce, Zion or the Grand Canyon.

Bryce sounds pretty long for a day trip. I would consider Zion though. Red Rock Canyon is more of a 1/2 day trip, unless you plan more than a short hike.

hunterblu, I certainly agree that not much compares to the wonder/beauty of Grand Canyon, Bryce, etc. but with such a limited amount of time I still do not think it's a great idea to spend endless hours in the car with a quick look into the Grand Canyon.

I know you did Bryce/Zion but to me it sounded like a very LONG day and not one I'd enjoy - each to their own tho. I live out this way so I've seen these sights in a leisurely manner.

with only 3 days, i would do a day trip to valley of fire. take the freeway there and then take more of the side roads back via hoover dam and maybe a detour to lake mead if you have time.
