Outlet Shopping Where's the Best
Hello
I am visiting the States in 2 weeks for a month. I would like to know where the best outlet shopping is near the following cities Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Seattle. Do they compare to outlets in Orlando? I don't have a huge amount of time to travel a long way out of each city. I would like to know about outlets where there are at least 50 shops (better variety). Thanks everyone, OUTLETS RULE!!!! Regards an Aussie Shopaholic! |
Supermall of the Great Northwest in suburban Seattle (Auburn) is a huge off-price mall with outlet shops and other discount stores. There are several other pure outlet malls in the Seattle area also. Supermall offers free bus service from Sea-Tac airport. Like horse racing? The fine new racetrack (Emerald Downs) is about a mile from the Supermall. Like gambling? The Puyallup Indians just opened a very popular riverboat casino nereby in Tacoma. South King County has it all!

Hello Steve
Thanks for the information. I'm spending 5 days in Seattle and can't wait to get there. We're visiting some great places, Boeing, Microsoft, Sea-Tac.... The shopping will be a highlite. Are the Puyallup Indians an actual Indian tribe from the region? Sounds interesting! We could easily spend two weeks in Seattle looking around, there seems to be so much on offer. Thanks again. Regards Glen. |
We spent some time in Las Vegas two years ago, there was an outlet complex just a few miles south of the main Strip, I think it was quite new then and was in the process of being developed. If you are driving from LA there was also another complex halfway on that journey, at Barstow. The Barstow one was the better of the two from memory, and at that time probably was not quite as good as the complex at the top of International Drive in Orlando. Still this may have changed in the past two years. Have a good time and I hope this helps.

For a caveat about outlet shopping go to: www.washingtonpost.com. At the "Find a Feature" Search type in "Bob Levey". Follow that thread to "recent columns" to his article 6/10/97.

Hi! Thanks for the personal message. Yes, the Puyallups are one of the Pacific Northwest's remaining active tribes. Their reservation is largely urban today and lies in the area around the City of Tacoma. There are at least a half dozen active NW tribes in the Seattle area and many more in the State. If you are interested in Native American culture, see what's going on at Daybreak Star Center in Discovery Park. Or, if you can stand tourist shows, the Salmon dinner and show at Blake Island makes a nice afternoon trip with terrific views of Seattle from the water. Have fun! If the weather is nice you'll want stay longer. Go up to Sunrise on Mount Rainier and you'll want to stay for the rest of your life.

The outlet mall south of the strip in Las Vegas is called the Belz Outlet center. I found it to be better than the one south of it in Barstow because it is indoor and air-conditioned! A neccesity in the Vegas heat! It also housed the outlet for MGM so don't buy anything at the MGM hotel. You will find it half price or less at the outlet mall MGM store. I was impressed and I am an avid outlet mall shopper and a frequent visitor to Las Vegas.
