Outer Cape dining

Hi! Getting ready for our trip to the Cape in a few weeks. Can't wait. I've lived in New England all my life, but have never been to the Cape. Why? Beats me! I think it was all the horror stories about the drive. Well, my son is all grown up & staying home, so now that we don't have to worry about a little kid moaning "Are we there yet?" every five minutes, we are ready to go, long drive be damned!

Sorry to post yet another question about restaurants, but from what I have seen, most of the restaurant topics are asking for opinions on "the best" fried clams. My DH & I are not fried food eaters, so we are looking for lighter, healthier fare. We're staying in the Truro area, so P-town & Wellfleet are easy access, but we are willing to travel a bit for really good food. Don't get me wrong, we're not above having something really rich and decadent, we just don't care for fried foods.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can send my way.

Well, I'll be the first to recommend Blackfish in No. Truro. Four of us had an outstanding dinner there two months ago. No fried clams in sight, though I love them. Service was unexpectedly sophisticated as well. I had the pan-roasted haddock with salsa verde, brown butter, whipped salsify and haricot vert, washed it down with a nice Sancerre. Menu at the link.

I recommend Mac's Shack and Wicked Oyster in Wellfleet. Except for one or two restaurants on the fried clam/Wellfleet thread, all the restaurants mentioned are good and some just happen to have some fried food but are not the "clam shack" type of place.

Love the sushi at Mac's Shack and the seafood dinners as well.

I just had dinner at Terra Luna, on Rt 6A in Truro....Same location but different owner than last year. I had a lovely Paneed Goat cheese as a starter...with grilled figs, local hone and fig balsamic. Followed by Roasted Local Cod Served with escarole, white beans, prosciutto and risotto in a savory broth that was divine. In the past we have ordered and loved the blackberry polenta custard and so we were pleasantly surprised to see that it has remained on the menu and maintains the same delicious taste and texture that we remember from the years past.

Another nice seasonal restaurant is Winslow's Tavern, in the center of Wellfleet with dining al fresco as well as indoor seating.

For great fresh food at a price that will not break the budget go to Finely JP's on Rt 6 in South Wellfleet. The pan fried, almond encrusted sole and mashed potatoes is my favorite.

Once again the Fodors community comes thru. Thanks for the advice. I just finished dinner & yet, I'm feeling kind of hungry after yellowbyrd's descriptions. Mmmmm. Will let you know what we tried & how things went at the end of the month. Thanks again!!!

In Provincetown try The Mews and Napis. You're in for some great eating in that part of the Cape!

Just wanted to add - I hope you absolutely enjoy the Cape. I am travelling across the world to see it in October, that's how much I have always wanted to see it. Isnt it strange how we can live so close to somewhere and never see it, the same goes for some places here in Australia which I will never see but I am glad I can complete a dream I have had since a teen this year. Enjoy your experience!

Had a fabulous meal last weekend at PB Bistro in S. Wellfleet. Can highly recommend the warm salad with pancetta, Halibut, and the chocolate pot de creme dessert.

Thanks.
