Outer Banks - Thanksgiving
 

We are thinking of looking for a family rental in the Outer Banks over Thanksgiving. Have never been there. Will there be some restaurants open? Golf??? Sightseeing? Any sugggestions on finding a rental.

We used sunrealtync.com and were pleased. <BR> <BR>We stayed in Duck. The rates over Thanksgiving were very, very, very good a few years ago. Our house was &lt;$350 for the long weekend. It had several bedrooms, game room with ping pong table and all amenities of home (TV/VCR, microwave, etc...) <BR> <BR>We needed jackets and sweaters while on the beach (that particular Thanksgiving was cold). But the dog liked the beach! <BR> <BR>Restaurants were open. <BR> <BR>Sightseeing - Didn't do too much except Friday after Thanksgiving went to Wright Brothers Nat. Memorial. <BR>

Joanna: <BR> <BR>Another realty alternative is Village Realty in Nags Head, NC: I believe their web site is Villagerealty.com, but am not positive. <BR>Some restaurants do close after Labor Day, but some of the best ones stay open. Suggest you try Owens Restaurant in Nags Head; Kelly's in Kill Devil Hills; Penguin Isle in Nags Head. Other info from previous poster is accurate. Enjoy! <BR> <BR>John

I second the vote for Owens. Very nice food and great decor in Nags Head. <BR> The Outerbanks is really neat. Should be nice a quiet when you are there. <BR> <BR> Do not miss the Wright Brothers Museum in Kill Devil Hills--you can run down the small hill where they launched the first flight. Not sure if the gift shop and museum are open, however. The roof leaked and the National Park Department closed it for a while. <BR> <BR>Also, check out Jockey Ridge in Kitty Hawk. Very large sand dunnes that are pretty incredible. <BR> <BR>Drive up through Duck and Corolla, down to the Cape Hatteras Light House. <BR> <BR>After you have been to the OuterBanks, you will be amazed that this, probably 1 mile wide at the most, strip of sand, really, has survived all of these years. <BR> <BR>Neat area! <BR> <BR>Dick

The Outer Banks of North Carolina Is one of my Favorite places to visit. Especially in the fall!!! The beach is so nice in the fall. The weather is tolerable, just add a sweatshirt w/ hood and you are set!!!

Most everything is open all year (restaurants, golfing, museums, area lighthouses, etc.). Actually, the oter bans have a reasonable full-time population, and many other people own houses there they visit regularly all-year, so plenty is going around Thanksgiving, except swimming. And it really is serene and beautiful.

I live on Hatteras Island on the Outerbanks, it is a great location for Thanksgiving, but places fill up fast. Here are some realty companies on Hatteras, www.outerbeachesrealty.com, hatterasrealty.com, surforsound.com. Good luck. Things close after Thanksgiving!
