Outer Banks In Feb?
Are we crazy to even consider it? What is the weather like? Is anything open? - restaurants, etc.
Thanks! |
I was in that area a couple of years ago in early Feb. and it rained 4 days out of 5. However, it was not constant so we did some sightseeing. I noticed a few places were closed but open on weekendsw. The most troublesome issue was the wind which seemed to come up every aftrnoon..It was very restfull as we were in a friends condo that had a gas fireplace an a nice view..
Good luck |
As long as you go into it knowing that it will be different from a 90 degree week in the summer, you'll be fine. Being there during an off-peak time can be nice, although some spots will be closed for the season.
Personally, I think watching a good storm on the ocean coast can be a thrill in itself. Plus, the odds are you'll have several nice days in any given week. |
Thanks for your quick replies! What is the average temp. in Feb?
|
OK --now we are thinking of New Bern mainly because it is closer to Raleigh--best place to fly in to and drive to New Bern?
Anyone stayed in New Bern--any comments about Fairfield Harbour or any of the other timeshares in area? Thanks again! |
Why February? I would take a lot of books, board games and videos.

You will not be alone in February. It seems that more people are visiting in the off, off season of January and February.
The weather is definitely iffy. Find a place that is lived in by locals year round like Duck, Nags Head, Manteo, or Kill Devil Hills. Those areas will likely have more restaurants and stores open. Corolla is an option, too. But, plan to drive at least 20 to 25 minutes to the nearest restaurant. Also, take plenty of dvd's and books with you. Charter Cable usually has many outages in the winter. |
