Outer Banks/ Atlantic Beach Info

Hi Everyone,

My friends and I are interested in taking a one week trip to NC in July. We are considering the Outer Banks or the Atlantic Beach/Emerald Isle area. We are looking for a nice beach, a pool and some low-key entertainment for our kids (maybe amusement park or something), which range in age from 1-5. We are not sure about accomodations, but we do not want to rent a house together because there will be too much of a commotion with the kids being together at all times. So most likely we want a hotel or condo for the week.

Any information on these areas is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When we first started going to the Outer Banks about 10 years ago, we rented a 3 bedroom condo at Duck Blind Vilas (in Duck) from Twiddy Realtors (twiddy.com). They are right on the water, with an oceanfront pool and a nice beach. Most of the accomdations in the Outer Banks are houses, but there are a few condo locations and a few hotels. There is miniature golf in the area but I don't recall any amusement parks. Kids as young as yours usually don't need much more than a beach and a pool. You might be a little late to find something in July. If your kids are not yet school age, the rates drop at the end of August and September (which is also hurricane season). Good luck.

That should be Villas, not Vilas

Don't be turned off by renting a home - there are so many to choose from to fit the needs of your family. You can get one with it's own pool and with the # of bedrooms you need. To save $$, you can stay on the sound side of the main road. Contact villagerealtyobx.com or Southern Shores Realty and they'd be happy to send you rental home information. We've been renting homes for the past 7 years - and usually rent a different one each year depending on how many people go with us. We really like the Southern Shores area, if you want peace and quiet; the Currituck Club is beautifully landscaped with lighted paths/sidewalks throughout the whole development. They even offer a free shuttle to the beach, as this development is on the sound side and is built around a beautiful golf course. They also have a community pool if you don't want the expense of a home with it's own pool. I think once you experience the OBX, you will love it!

If you pick Atlantic Beach, look at the Windjammer Hotel. All rooms are oceanfront and have microwaves.
