Ouray to Aspen or Carbondale to Estes

Hi we will be coming from Ouray on September 16th and have two days before our reservation in Estes. We were thinking about stopping to see Aspen and Maroon Bells. I have two reservations made and can cancel one once we decide which way to go. My question is coming from Ouray, should we stay in Carbondale or Snowmass? If we stay in Carbondale do we head through Glenwood springs to get to Estes? Would this be a faster route than staying in Snowmass? Should we avoid this due to the construction? Would Snowmass be a better choice based on wanting to see Maroon Bells and Aspen? If so, is independence pass the quickest route to Estes?

Staying in Aspen is the best idea, if you enjoy walking in an historic town. We recently stayed at a very nice 2bdrm/2ba condo in central Aspen, through VRBO, for $241/night. It was a great price and a great location.

But it is not the quickest way to Estes. The quickest way is through Glennwood Springs, I70, Golden, Boulder, Lyons.
