Ouray or Lake City, CO?

My husband and I will be driving to Colorado in July. We're trying to plan our route, coming in thru Colorado Springs, headed toward Gunnison and down to Durango. We've been to this area before, but it's been ten years. We thought we'd drive to Ouray and spend a night or two there, but we've just heard about Lake City and a great B & B there, called the Old Carson Inn. We're thinking of spending a couple of days there instead. I know that area is beautiful, but is Lake City too small to stay there two or three nights? After that, are three nights too long to be in Durango? We're not very athletic, but want to try river rafting and like the jeep rides and just wandering around. Your thoughts, please!

Lake City is tiny; you would be better off both for restaurants and touring to stay in Ouray.

I Love Ouray! My husband & I go there every few years for July 4th. They have a wonderful celebration. Little parade through downtown, then a water fight between neighboring firefighters and a wonderful fireworks show that night. Other than July 4th it is just a beautiful, friendly town. I don't know if you enjoy renting a jeep and going up the mountains but that is great also. There is a nice B&B there called the China Clipper.

Check out the Wiesbaden Hots Springs Lodge in Ouray. We loved it!

Thanks for the suggestions. We've had to rearrange our trip because everything is already booked for July 4. We're going a few weeks later in July. Have decided to spend our first night in Gunnison, then one night in Lake City at the Old Carson Inn. I've read in another post that with a high 4WD, which we have, you can drive Cinnamon pass between Lake City and Ouray. We'll do that, spend one or two night in Ouray and then two nights in Durango before heading home via Alamosa.
Sound OK?
Carol
