We are thinking to drive up to Crater lake national park and then drive down to REDWOOD NATIONAL PARK, JENNER, GUERNEVILLE, AND THE RUSSIAN RIVER,BIG BASIN REDWOODS STATE PARK,CARMEL,POINT LOBOS STATE RESERVE BIG SUR VILLAGE,PFEIFFER-BIG SUR STATE PARK SAN SIMEON,HEARST CASTLE,SAN LUIS OBISPO then heading back come home. This is our first time to plan a long drive. We are in our 60th, we need your opinion and ideas to adjust our plan. Thanks |
ttt for chin. I don't have any suggestions, surfing for those myself but I am sure that there are plenty of folks here who would be happy to help this 60 yr old couple tweak their plans.

Hi,
I drove some of that earlier this year, and have been to Crater Lake in the past. I would vote an emphatic "yes" to Crater Lake and then take the Hwy #199 between Grants Pass, OR and Crescent City, CA and then catch the Redwoods on the path down the coast. You simply can't go wrong on the CA coast, even as it gets later in the year. I went to Hearst Castle in March and appreciated it much more than I had on my previous visit. I think your own instincts are plenty enough to see you through to an enjoyable tour. |
Since you're obviously into the outdoors and nature, you might make a stop at Oregon Caves, between Crater Lake and the Redwoods. The "chateau" lodge there is really wonderful and rustic as well if you spent the night after taking some time at Grant's Pass and maybe did a day raft or jet boat trip there. Do the caves late in the afternoon or early the next morning then head out.

Dear Patrick,
Thanks for let us know the Oregon Caves. I looked at the web site, and printed out the map. We will love to visit there. Thanks for your suggestion to "chateau" lodge as well, we will spend one night there. We are heading out tomorrow, and I am really appreciated for receiving good suggestions before our trip. Thanks Chin |

Dear Edhodge,NorthwestMale and Patrick,
We enjoyed our trip very much. The Redwood State Parks we enjoyed the most is Jedediah Smith Redwoods State park, especially our drive is called Howland Hill Road, also called Boy Scout tree trail from Crescent City to Stout Grove. We also enjoyed the Crater Lake. The blue deep lake is very attractive to us. We spent lots of our time at point Lobos, we felt that is the best coast area in our whole trip. We spent quite a few hours there and enjoyed the waves and rocks. Thanks again for your help to make our trip wonderful. Thanks Chin |
