Oh Faina, thank you for sharing this! LOL. Tell me, did the Limoncello improve Kal's singing? And was it Italian opera? Wish I had been there with all of you.

Hope you are having the nice sunshine today like we are. It is almost like a summers day here. Take good care

My report is somewhere on Yountville get-together thread. I mentioned Mrs Kal needing a friendly shoulder to cry on. My marriage is 2 years longer then Kals' so I knew what kind of help to offer

Sorry was not sober enough to remember which country's opera it was

Happy Birthday, Kal!
We've never rmet in person (I missed the GTG in Nov--was in Hawaii) but we've responded to a bunch of same questions. I'm the one with the teenage daughter who got the "Play Dirty" tee shirt at the surfer shop in Kauai. On your rec, had drinks at wonderful outdoor bar at Islander on the Beach, and loved the the place, a convenient beachside walk from where we stayed at Lae nani.
Wonder how Islander will be now that it's being converted to for-sale studio condos? I stayed there 4 yrs ago, thought it was great value, but after two different friends got bedbug bites there, stopped recommending it. Let us know after your trip what's goin on there. Wishing you many happy returns!!

CaliN-Thanks.

We had 1st crack at the room we usually stay but it was too rich for our blood. Can't see spending that much for approx 400sf!

We've been lucky and only had one year when we got bothered by bugs.
We also buy sealable pouches, cheap tupperware and kept the wet bar and microwave clean so there's nothing for the bugs to do.

13 mo' days until we walk out of registration towards the Sand Bar to meet up with our buddies again.
"49 weeks of a bad dream surrounded by 3 weeks of reality"!

Did your daughter get any decals?

Decals or De-Kals?
No, she didn't get any there But we get some good ones every yr (without double entendres) at Crazy Shirts.
Tell Mrs. Kal there's a fun clothing store toward the north end of Kapaa called Jungle Girl--you may already know it. Nice gift shop a bit further back in the lot, can't recall the name.
The bugs at Islander were not of the flying or crawling kind They were worse:bedbugs, which you don't know are in bed with you 'til you get up in the morning with little red bites and lots of itching. (I can think of some potential jokes here.) Seriously, I felt kind of responsible, as I'd recomended the hotel to the bitees
Say--that gives me a great idea for a Fodors thread. Stay tuned or the posting...

Chicgal, we're planning a stay at the Amalfi in January. What's the buzz about this hotel? By the way, I love lemoncello (or is it limoncello) - been giving it as gifts for awhile now. Not everybody's a fan, since it's so sweet, but I keep mine in the freezer and you have to down it in one shot.
Cheers, Maggi

That's "Maggi range"!!!

The marathon is Oct 9th.
I don't think I have your e-mail addy so if you'd like to drop me a line to possibly arrange some sort of Chi-town GTG, we can bid this thread a quick adieu!

CaliNurse, if you send me your contact info I'll put you on the email list for any SF area GTG's. Kal, are you starting your own list or am I still keeping it?

Feliz Navidad, everyone -- I'm outta here for about 10 days (Oaxaca).
